Delicious and Quick Savory Pie with Zucchini, Leeks, and Bacon

The Savory Pie with Zucchini, Leeks, and Bacon is a rustic dish that I often prepare because it’s incredibly tasty and quick to make: I highly recommend it, especially to those moms who have difficulty getting their kids to eat vegetables and to those who want to quickly and healthily solve lunch.

A perfect pie for those who want to present a family dinner that’s different from the usual, or for those looking to enhance an appetizer buffet.

Extremely appetizing and versatile as it can be enjoyed both hot and cold, it’s ideal for those wanting to have a picnic but don’t want to settle for traditional snacks. Great to take to the beach or to the office for a lunch break.

Made using a base of puff pastry and a mixture of eggs and cheese, it will be completed with the decisive and tasty presence of zucchini, leeks, and cubed bacon.

It’s a real kitchen wildcard: easy to prepare, requiring few ingredients, and the result is always guaranteed.

It’s perfect for those with little time who don’t want to give up a tasty and satisfying dish.
And if you have guests, you can prepare it ahead of time, so you’ll have more time to spend with your friends and engage in conversation!

Lastly, don’t forget that this pie is also very versatile. You can customize it as you like, perhaps by adding cheeses or other vegetables you have in the fridge.

In short, it’s the ideal recipe for any occasion: quick, tasty, and always appreciated! Whether you’re preparing an informal lunch or a more elaborate dinner, this savory pie will make you shine without stress!

  • Slice the leeks and zucchini into rounds and cook them in a pan with a drizzle of olive oil and salt for about 15 minutes, adding a little water if necessary, until everything is well cooked.

(Trim the zucchini and leeks, then slice them into thin rounds so that the cooking is quite quick.
If you’re using a knife, try to make them all the same size for even cooking).

  • Also add the bacon cut finely into cubes or strips.

Taste and adjust with salt and pepper.

Let the zucchini and bacon absorb flavors for a few minutes, then let them cool.

  • Meanwhile, unroll the puff pastry, leaving the parchment paper underneath, place it in a round 9.5-inch to 10.2-inch pie or tart pan, and get it ready on the table.

Prick the bottom with the tines of a fork.

  • Beat the eggs, add three tablespoons of milk, the parmesan, and finally the diced galbanino cheese, then lightly salt and pepper.

  • Bake the savory pie in a preheated oven, in fan-assisted mode at 392°F, for about 20-25 minutes or until the pastry has turned a nice golden color.
If you have a static oven, bake the savory pie at 392°F for about 30-35 minutes or until the pastry is well golden.
If you have an air fryer, prepare the savory pie in the fryer basket, just as described in the recipe, then cook it at 392°F for about 15-18 minutes, or until the edges of the pastry have turned golden.

(Remember that each air fryer and oven have their times, so check).
Once the puff pastry is golden, turn off the oven and let cool.

  • Remember to let it rest a few minutes after taking it out of the oven before slicing.
This will help maintain its shape and blend the flavors.
Serve it warm or at room temperature: in either case, it will be a hit! With these simple tips, your savory pie will be a true masterpiece to savor and share!
    Enjoy your meal.

Tips

You can store the savory pie in the refrigerator in an airtight container for a couple of days.

When using puff pastry, be sure to unroll it carefully and prick it with a fork before adding the filling.

This step is crucial to prevent it from puffing up during baking. You can also brush the edge of the pastry with a bit of egg yolk to get a golden and shiny color.

You can replace the bacon with ham, mortadella, or other deli meats of your choice.

You can substitute galbanino with mozzarella, provola, or whatever you have in your fridge.

You can skip the parmesan and replace it with pecorino.

Use fresh and firm zucchinis as they are sweeter; when they are bitter, they are too old.
