Polenta Chips in Air Fryer

Polenta Chips in Air Fryer. A delicious savory recipe that is perfect for appetizers or as an original, tasty starter.

It’s a creative way to use leftover polenta and, at the same time, they are an incredibly tasty, crunchy appetizer with endless variations.

If you don’t have ready polenta, alternatively buy a block of ready-made polenta.
These polenta chips can be enjoyed on their own as chips or seasoned with any topping, exploiting the neutral taste of polenta.

They are delicious and very easy to prepare, but remember one important thing… the polenta must be cooked and well cooled before cutting and placing it in the air fryer, otherwise, it will break apart.

Cooking in an air fryer makes everything lighter and allows for easily obtaining crispy polenta without the risk of making it greasy with traditional frying oil.

It has all the advantages of polenta sticks: it’s crunchy on the outside and truly delightful.

Moreover, it contains no meat, fish, or other animal-derived ingredients, so it satisfies everyone, even those following a vegetarian diet.

First, prepare the polenta; we used traditional long-cooking polenta given by my brother, but instant polenta is also fine. After cooking, we spread it in a rectangular baking dish.

Fried polenta chips in the air fryer are a tasty alternative to French fries, and much healthier.

If you don’t have an air fryer, they can be fried in hot oil and cooked in a convection oven.

Polenta Chips in Air Fryer

  • Prepare polenta the traditional way (even using instant polenta).
First, weigh the flour and measure the water.
Take a double-bottom pot, pour in the water and add salt.
Add the flour and mix well with a whisk.
Then turn on the stove and continue mixing until it starts to boil; at this point, add a drizzle of oil and continue mixing for a few minutes.
When you see the mixture become smooth and homogeneous.

Move the pot to the smallest gas burner, cover it with a lid, and cook on low heat for 45 minutes, without stirring.

(However, if you use quick-cooking corn flour, which still yields good results in a very short time.
The cooking time for these is 4 or 5 minutes).

(If you want to save time, they also sell ready-made polenta blocks).

  • When the polenta is cooked, pour it into a container to form a block.
    Cover the block.
Let the block cool before using it.
Alternatively, buy a ready-made polenta block.

  • Tip: Once the polenta is completely cooled, put it in the fridge overnight to solidify further.

The next day, slice the polenta thinly then into triangles and spray the air fryer spray oil on both sides.
We like them plain, but if you prefer….
Add your favorite spices, such as salt, sweet and hot paprika, rosemary powder, and garlic powder.

Cook the polenta chips in the air fryer until they become crispy and golden.
Place them in the air fryer basket and cook at 392°F (200°C) for about 10/12 minutes.
Tip: (Keep them spaced apart without overlapping).
