Orange Hot Chocolate

How delicious is orange hot chocolate! A sweet indulgent treat for cold winter days for both adults and children. Plus, it’s also quite quick to prepare and requires very few ingredients. You can enjoy it on its own or enrich it with dollops of whipped cream, for an extra touch of indulgence. The version I propose today is made with only unsweetened cocoa, but you can also add chopped dark chocolate during cooking. If, once prepared, there is any leftover, store it in the fridge for a couple of days and, when ready to consume, dilute it with a few tablespoons of milk and reheat it, it will taste as fresh as just made.

Ingredients for Orange Hot Chocolate

  • 1.67 cups milk
  • 2.82 oz sugar
  • 3 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 3 tbsp cornstarch (maizena)
  • 1/2 orange peel

What You Need for Orange Hot Chocolate

  • 1 Small Pot
  • 1 Whisk
  • 1 Spatula

Preparation of Orange Hot Chocolate

  • In a small pot, combine sugar and cocoa and give an initial stir. Add cornstarch and mix the three powders well.

  • Gradually add the milk, preferably warm, continuously stirring with a silicone spatula, making sure to gather the powders from the outer edges of the pot.

  • Continue this way until all the milk is added. At this point, wash and dry an organic orange and peel half of it.

  • The orange peel should be only the orange part, leaving the white part would make the preparation bitter.

  • Place the pot over medium heat and allow the chocolate to thicken, continuously stirring to prevent it from sticking to the bottom.

  • Let it reduce to taste, to have it more or less thick. Consider that, once the heat is turned off, the chocolate will continue to thicken slightly.

  • Remove the orange peel and give another stir with a whisk to make the preparation perfectly smooth and glossy.

  • Enjoy it hot or with the addition of a few dollops of cream.
