Puff Pastry Cake with Jam and Apples

in ,

The Puff Pastry Cake with Jam and Apples is a dessert where the crunchiness of the puff pastry contrasts with the softness of the jam and apples. It is the last-minute dessert, beautiful to see, very quick to prepare, and capable of releasing that captivating aroma that immediately pleases everyone. The harmonious contrast between the flakiness of the pastry and the softness of the jam and apples makes this delicious dessert. For the filling, I used a generous layer of quince jam, which I had prepared beforehand, but any other jam like apricot or peach can be used. Finally, the thinly sliced apples create a very pleasant scenic cover. I used Red Delicious apples for that extra touch of color, but Golden and Renette apples are also suitable. You can also add a pinch of cinnamon or raisins if you like.

Ingredients for the Puff Pastry Cake with Jam and Apples

  • 1 roll puff pastry
  • 2 Red Delicious apples (Stark)
  • 5.3 oz jam
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 2 tablespoons honey

What You Need for the Puff Pastry Cake with Jam and Apples

  • 1 Small Bowl
  • 1 Brush
  • 1 Knife

Procedure for the Puff Pastry Cake with Jam and Apples

  • Turn on the oven to 392°F and, while it heats up, proceed with the preparation of the Puff Pastry Cake with Jam and Apples.

  • Wash the apples well, dry them, and cut them in half. Remove the core carefully without breaking them.

  • Cut them into slices of the same thickness and place them on a plate. Now turn to the puff pastry, which should be taken out of the fridge at the moment.

  • The thermal shock that the cold pastry will undergo upon meeting the heat of the oven will make it puff up well.

  • Unroll the puff pastry onto the oven tray, leaving it on the same baking paper in which it is rolled.

  • Using a flat plate or lid slightly smaller than the diameter of the pastry, place these on the base and press lightly to leave a mark of their circumference.

  • Now, with a smooth and well-sharpened knife, cut the part all around into strips about an inch wide from the mark left by the plate or lid to the outside.

  • To create the braid, simply turn these strips one in the direction to the right and the next to the left, overlapping them until they are all finished.

  • Spread the jam over the entire inside of the braid and if it is very thick, dilute it with a bit of hot water.

  • Place the apple slices all around, overlapping them halfway and fill the central hole with pieces.

  • Sprinkle the granulated sugar over the fruit and bake for about 30 minutes at 392°F. The time and degrees are indicative because each oven has its temperatures, so you will have to adjust with the temperatures of your appliance.

  • Take the cake out of the oven and set it aside for a moment. Soften the honey by putting it in the turned-off oven for a few minutes, then brush it still warm over the entire cake.

  • This operation will make a golden and shiny cake.

I hope you enjoy this easy, quick, and impressive dessert. Enjoy your tasting!
