Chocolate Chip Cookies: The Original American Recipe

Crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside, irresistible and very easy to make.
Chocolate chip cookies are among the most loved sweets of all time. These American cookies with their unmistakable aroma win over young and old with their texture: slightly crunchy on the outside and with a soft heart full of chocolate chips that melt at the first bite.
I often make them at home, especially when I want something good but quick. Just a few ingredients, no special equipment, and in less than half an hour the dough is ready for the oven. The secret? Let the balls rest in the fridge before baking: this way they will hold their shape and be perfect!
For breakfast with a cup of coffee, as a snack with milk or even after dinner as a treat, chocolate chip cookies are always a good idea. And while they bake, the kitchen fills with a scent of good homemade things.
Try them too, you’ll see they disappear in a flash!
Absolutely a must, take my word for it.

Ingredients for Chocolate Chip Cookies

  • 1 egg
  • 2/3 cup butter (room temperature)
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 1/4 cup chocolate chips
  • 1 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Tools

  • Bowls
  • Wooden Spoon
  • Parchment Paper
  • Baking Tray

Prepare Chocolate Chip Cookies

In a bowl, combine flour, baking powder, baking soda, and a pinch of salt. Mix and set aside.
In another bowl, work the soft butter with the brown sugar and granulated sugar until you get a cream.
Add the egg and vanilla extract and mix.
Combine the dry ingredients little by little and mix well.
Add the chocolate chips and mix quickly until you get a homogeneous dough.
Form balls of about 1.4 oz, place them on a baking tray lined with parchment paper well spaced apart, and let them rest in the refrigerator for 2 hours.
Bake in a preheated static oven at 375°F for about 13-15 minutes until golden.
Let cool on a rack: the cookies will firm up as they cool.

Storage

You can store the chocolate chip cookies in a tin box or an airtight cookie container for up to a week. They remain crispy and delicious as freshly made. If you want to store them longer, you can also freeze them once baked and defrost them when needed.
