Ingredients for Eggless Apple Fritters

  • 3/4 cup flour
  • 2 apples (peeled and medium-sized)
  • 3 1/2 tbsp milk
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1/3 cup sparkling water
  • 1 tbsp sugar (+ for decoration)
  • as needed lemon juice
  • as needed cinnamon powder
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Useful Tools

  • Apple Corer
  • Bowls
  • Frying Pan

How to Prepare Eggless Apple Fritters

  • I wash the apples, remove the core, and peel them.
I cut them into slices about 1/4 inch thick and place them in a bowl with some lemon juice so they don’t darken.
In another bowl, I prepare the eggless batter: I pour the sparkling water, the milk, the sugar, the vanilla extract, the baking powder, and a pinch of salt.
I add the flour and mix with a hand whisk until I obtain a smooth, creamy, and lump-free batter.
I heat the vegetable oil in a large frying pan and bring it to about 340°F.
I dip the apple slices in the batter, coat them well, and fry them a few at a time, turning them gently, until they are well puffed and golden on both sides.
Once cooked, I transfer them to absorbent paper to remove excess oil.
Before serving, I coat them in sugar flavored with cinnamon.

Storage and Useful Tips for Apple Fritters

Eggless apple fritters are excellent hot just made, but also delicious cold.
My advice is to consume them on the same day because they are at their best right after preparation.
Avoid freezing: they would lose their crispness and texture.

👉 Dairy-free variant: you can replace milk with a plant-based beverage (soy, oat, or almond).
👉 Extra-crunchy effect: use well-chilled sparkling water and don’t overwork the batter.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What kind of apples are best to use?

Almost all apples are fine. The important thing is that they are firm, so they hold up well during cooking without crumbling during frying.

  • Why use sparkling water in the batter?

Sparkling water makes the batter lighter and helps achieve puffier and crunchier fritters, even without eggs.

  • Can I bake them or use an air fryer?

This recipe is designed for frying, which guarantees the best result. In the oven or air fryer, the texture will be different and less crunchy.
