Ingredients for the Halloween monster tart

  • 4 oz butter
  • 4 oz sugar
  • 3.5 oz eggs
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 pinch salt
  • Half lemon zest (Grated)
  • 9 oz strawberry jam (Or cherry jam)

Tools

  • 1 Baking pan 9 inches with removable bottom
  • round cookie cutter

Halloween Monster Tart Procedure

  • 1. Prepare the shortcrust pastry
In a large bowl, quickly work butter and sugar. Add the eggs, lemon zest, and salt. Finally, add the flour and knead by hand until a homogeneous dough is obtained. Wrap in plastic wrap and let it rest in the refrigerator for at least an hour (or all day).
The shortcrust pastry can be frozen in food bags.
    2. Roll out the base
Take the pastry, divide it into two parts (one slightly larger). Roll out the larger part to about 1/2 inch thickness. Roll the dough around the rolling pin and place it in a 9-inch greased and floured baking pan or lined with parchment paper.
Press well to adhere to the edges and remove the excess pastry by rolling the rolling pin over the edges. Prick the base with a fork and pour in the jam, leveling it well.
    3. Create the monstrous face
Roll out the other part of the pastry and use a cookie cutter to cut out the eyes. Use the handle of the knife to create the nose and the blade for the mouth. For a monstrous effect, smear the edge of the mouth with a bit of jam.
    4. Baking
Bake at 350°F for about 45 minutes, until golden. Let it cool well before removing from the pan.

Storage and Tips

Gluten-free variant: you can prepare it with gluten-free flour, keeping the same proportions.

Freshness effect: add the zest of an orange to the dough for a more intense aroma.

Prepare the pastry a day in advance: it will remain more elastic and workable.

Put the tart in the fridge for 2 hours before baking: it will hold its shape better during baking.
