Ingredients for the monstrous Halloween tart
- 4.41 oz butter
- 4.41 oz sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 2 cups flour
- 1 pinch salt
- Half lemon zest (Grated)
- 8.82 oz strawberry jam (Or cherry)
Tools
- 1 Baking pan 9-inch with removable bottom
- round cookie cutter
Procedure for the monstrous Halloween tart
1. Prepare the shortcrust pastry
In a large bowl, quickly work butter and sugar. Add eggs, lemon zest, and salt. Finally, add the flour and knead by hand until you get a smooth dough. Wrap in cling film and let it rest in the refrigerator for at least one hour (even all day).
The shortcrust pastry can be frozen in food bags.
2. Roll out the base
Take the shortcrust pastry, divide it into two parts (one slightly larger). With a rolling pin, roll out the larger part to about 1/2 inch thick. Roll the dough around the rolling pin and place it in a 9-inch buttered and floured pan or covered with parchment paper.
Press well to the edges and remove the excess dough by passing the rolling pin over the edges. Prick the base with a fork and pour the jam, leveling it well.
3. Create the monstrous face
Roll out the other part of the dough and with a cookie cutter, cut out the eyes. Use the knife handle to create the nose and the blade for the mouth. For a monstrous effect, smudge the edge of the mouth with a bit of jam.
4. Baking
Bake at 356°F for about 45 minutes, until golden. Let cool well before removing from the mold.
Storage and tips
Gluten-free variant: you can prepare it with gluten-free flour, maintaining the same proportions.
Freshness effect: add the zest of an orange to the dough for a more intense aroma.
Prepare the shortcrust pastry a day in advance: it will remain more elastic and workable.
Place the tart in the fridge for 2 hours before baking: it will better maintain its shape during baking.
