Valentine’s Heart Cookies are shortbread cookies glazed with chocolate halfway and decorated with little colorful sugar stars. They are simple, quick to make, and delicious. I had a lot of fun making them, and they are perfect for celebrating Valentine’s Day. The Valentine’s Heart Cookies store perfectly in a tin box for up to a week. They surely won’t last long, as in my home.

Ingredients for Valentine’s Heart Cookies
- 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup potato starch
- 1/3 cup sugar
- 1/3 cup butter
- 1 pinch salt
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1 egg
- 1 1/2 lemon zest (grated)
- as needed 55% dark chocolate
- as needed colored sprinkles
Preparation
I put the flour, baking powder, and potato starch in a fountain shape on the board, with the butter cut into pieces in the center, and work it with my hands. Then I add the eggs, a pinch of salt, and the grated zest of one lemon, and knead quickly and compactly.
I form it into a ball and wrap it in plastic wrap, letting it rest in the fridge for about an hour.
Afterwards, I roll it out with a rolling pin on the board and use a heart-shaped cookie cutter to make the cookies.
I place them on a buttered and floured baking tray and finally bake them at 340°F for about 15 minutes. I remove the baked hearts and let them cool for 10 minutes.
I melt the chocolate in a double boiler and dip the cookies halfway, then decorate them with the colorful stars. WONDERFUL and long live LOVE
Susy’s Tip
These wonderful cookies can be decorated in many other ways, with glittery sugars, hazelnut granules, colorful sprinkles – let your imagination run wild.
