Perfectly cook basmati rice in an electric pressure cooker in just a few minutes without errors and achieve a great result. What satisfaction, when you compact it in a bowl, flip it, and it retains the perfect shape, just like when served in Asian restaurants. It may seem trivial, but the famous saying “the eye wants its part,” has never been so true. A simple dish, which is not yet a dish waiting to be transformed or accompanied by other ingredients to go from ugly duckling to super delicacy. And if it’s well-cooked, we’re already halfway there. These are the instructions to avoid mistakes, as per the manual of the Instant Pot, the magical electric pressure cooker, are in Italian, so you don’t risk making mistakes, they are simple and clear. I have made mistakes with basmati rice cooking more than once, so follow these suggestions carefully, pay special attention to the pot opening method, and voilà, the cooking will be perfect!

- Cost: Very Cheap
- Rest time: 10 Minutes
- Preparation time: 5 Minutes
- Cooking methods: Instant pot
- Cuisine: International
- Seasonality: All Seasons
Ingredients
- 2 cups Basmati rice (500 ml)
- 2 cups water (and a half 625 ml)
Tools
- 1 Pressure Cooker Instant pot
- 1 Colander
- 1 Spoon
Steps
Put the rice, 2 cups, in a fine mesh colander and rinse well under running water.
Transfer the washed rice into the electric pressure cooker and cover with 2 and a half cups of water. Use cups of the same size or if you have a measuring jug, you can also measure 500ml of rice and add 625 ml of cold water.
Cover all the rice with water, stir with a spoon, and make sure there are no grains stuck to the pot edge, as they might not cook if left out of the water.
Close the Instant Pot lid and set the valve to “sealing.” Start cooking using the manual program for 3 minutes on “high pressure.”
At the end of cooking, use the natural steam release method for 10 minutes, which consists of:
1st leave the electric pressure cooker closed, without moving the vent valve in the “Keep warm” function, for 10 minutes.
2nd After 10 minutes, press the “Cancel” button and open the vent valve by moving it to “Venting.”
As soon as the steam finishes escaping, open the lid and remove the rice from the pot. Now you can use it for your favorite dishes and season it however you like.
My Recommendation
Basmati rice cooked in the Instant Pot keeps well for a couple of days. Let it cool, then store it in a closed container before placing it in the refrigerator.
