Ingredients for upside-down orange cake without butter

  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3 eggs
  • 2/3 cup sugar (+ 2 tablespoons for caramelizing the oranges)
  • 1/2 cup sunflower seed oil
  • 1/2 cup orange juice
  • 1 orange (organic)
  • 1 packet vanilla-flavored baking powder
  • 1 packet dried and grated orange peel

Preparation for upside-down orange cake without butter

  • Let’s see how to prepare the upside-down cake.

In a bowl, add sugar and eggs and beat with an electric mixer until they become frothy and pale. While continuing to mix, add the orange juice, the oil, the grated peel, and gradually the sifted flour, then the baking powder, continuing to mix.

  • After washing the orange well, cut it into slices, take a pan and place the orange slices inside, cover them with sugar and turn the heat on. Once the sugar has melted, caramelize the slices by turning them occasionally. When they are caramelized, turn off the heat. Take a springform pan and line the base with parchment paper, place the caramelized orange slices on the bottom, and cover with the prepared batter, being careful not to move the oranges. Level the batter and bake in a preheated oven at 350°F for 30/35 minutes. When it’s cooked, wait at least 10 minutes before removing it from the pan, then turn the cake over, place it on a serving plate, and brush the entire surface with the juice from the caramelized orange, which will give shine to the cake, but above all, it will make it even more delicious.

notes

I always recommend checking the cooking with a toothpick because baking times can vary from oven to oven.
