  • to taste chili powder
  • Half clove garlic
  • Half golden onion
  • to taste extra virgin olive oil
  • to taste tomato paste

  • Wooden spoon

Steps to make chard with cherry tomatoes in a pan

  • To prepare chard with cherry tomatoes in a pan, first wash the chard well, trim the tough bottom part and cut the leaves into strips. Leave the chard a bit damp so you can cook it in its own water without adding too much extra liquid. Then clean and thinly slice the golden onion. Wash well and cut the cherry tomatoes into quarters. Now take a large frying pan, heat some extra virgin olive oil and sauté the onion and half a clove of garlic cut into small pieces. Then add the chard, sauté for 5 minutes over medium-high heat, then lower the heat, add the cherry tomatoes, season with salt, black pepper and chili powder, stirring occasionally with a wooden spoon. Cook everything for about 20 minutes.

  • If you see it needs liquid, add a little water little by little. The chard should be tender — a fork should easily pierce the white stalk. At the end add a bit of tomato paste. Mix again. Turn off the heat and serve.

Storage and tips

You can store the chard in an airtight container in the fridge for a couple of days.

If you want, you can add more garlic; I only used half a clove.
