Fried Mozzarella Balls

Fried mozzarella balls are little bites of mozzarella, perfect as an appetizer and for a happy hour. They are easy and quick to make. They are really delicious; first, they are coated in flour, then in egg, and in breadcrumbs to create a double coating. Crunchy outside and soft inside! For this recipe, I used mozzarella ciliegine. They should be well-drained before use. The double coating is very important in this case, as is the frying. If possible, use peanut oil as it maintains the frying temperature well, and it’s important that it isn’t cold, otherwise the ciliegine won’t cook properly. • Difficulty: Easy

  • Cooking methods: Frying
  • Cuisine: Italian

Ingredients to prepare fried mozzarella balls

  • 4.4 oz mozzarella ciliegine
  • as needed all-purpose flour
  • as needed breadcrumbs
  • 1 egg (large)
  • as needed peanut oil
  • as needed salt

Steps to make fried mozzarella balls

  • To make fried mozzarella balls, first drain the mozzarella ciliegine well and dry them with paper towels. Beat the egg with a fork and add a pinch of salt, then put the all-purpose flour on a plate and the breadcrumbs on another plate. Dip the mozzarella ciliegine first in the flour, then in the egg, and finally in the breadcrumbs. Now do the double coating: take the breaded mozzarella balls and dip them again in the egg and breadcrumbs.

  • Meanwhile, heat some peanut oil for frying. If possible, use a high-sided pot and add plenty of oil; otherwise, with too little oil, they would absorb too much. When the oil is hot, drop the mozzarella balls in for a couple of minutes, trying to turn them with a slotted spoon until golden brown. Now drain your mozzarella balls and place them on paper towels. Sprinkle with salt on top. Serve them hot! Great for enjoying with friends!
