Potato and Ham Burgers

Potato and Ham Burgers are an easy and quick second course to prepare, very tasty, soft on the inside but crunchy on the outside, perfect to pair with meat, fish dishes, or simply with a mixed salad. Also perfect to serve as an appetizer at an event with friends and family. With these quantities, I made 8 medium-sized burgers. If you like potatoes, you might also try:

Steps to make potato and ham burgers

  • To prepare the potato and ham burgers, first peel the potatoes, wash them well, cut them into pieces and cook them in plenty of water, adding a pinch of coarse salt for about 30 minutes. When they are ready, you can mash them with a potato masher or a fork. Add 1 generous tablespoon of grated pecorino romano, a bit of chopped parsley, a grind of black pepper, a pinch of salt, 1 egg, then I added a mix of aromatic herbs I found in a supermarket, which includes rosemary, thyme, marjoram. Then cut the cooked ham into small pieces. I used about 3 slices. Mix everything well with a wooden spoon and set aside.

  • Meanwhile, pour some extra virgin olive oil into a large pan and heat the pan. Take a plate and pour some breadcrumbs onto it. Now with slightly damp hands, form the burgers, taking a bit of the mixture, form fairly large patties, then flatten them to give the shape of a burger. Pass all the burgers in the breadcrumbs and put them to cook in the pan. They should be nicely golden, cook them for about 5 minutes on each side.

  • All that’s left is to serve the potato and ham burgers nice and hot! Perfect to pair with a meat dish, fish, or a simple mixed salad.

You can store the burgers in the refrigerator for 1 day.

If you want them even tastier, you can add speck instead of cooked ham.
