This savory tart is very easy to make and perfect to bring to the table all year round but, given the season, today we present it in a Christmas version. A tasty and flavorful star with a batter enriched by a mix of different cheeses. You can add your favorites such as scamorza, Emmental, provolone, fontina, caciocavallo and so on. Before baking, I recommend sprinkling your savory tart with white and black sesame seeds (or just the white ones); they will give the rustic tart a pleasant extra touch. Ingredients
- 3 eggs
- 2/3 cup milk
- 7 tbsp vegetable oil
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 6 1/4 tbsp cornstarch
- 1 packet instant baking powder for savory preparations (about 1 tbsp)
- 2/3 cup grated Parmesan
- 3.5 oz smoked scamorza, diced (about 1 cup diced)
- 3.5 oz provolone, diced (about 1 cup diced)
- a pinch of salt
- to taste pepper
- to taste mixed sesame seeds
Steps
Beat the eggs in a bowl with a pinch of salt until you obtain a light and frothy mixture.
Slowly pour in the milk and the vegetable oil, add the grated Parmesan and the pepper (optional).
Combine the sifted flour with the cornstarch and the baking powder for savory tarts and mix until you obtain a well-blended batter.
Fold in the diced scamorza and provolone with a spatula, mixing gently from the bottom up.
Pour the batter into a star-shaped pan previously buttered and floured. Level the surface and sprinkle with the mixed sesame seeds.
Transfer the savory tart to a preheated oven at 356°F and bake for about 25 minutes.
Once removed from the oven and slightly cooled, the Christmas star cheese tart is ready to be enjoyed. It can be eaten plain or served/filled with cured meats.
