How to prepare the Christmas Appetizer
To prepare the canapés you will need 4 star-shaped cutters of different sizes. You need to cut about 12 stars of each size from the long slices of sandwich bread, for a total of 48 bread stars of 4 different sizes.
Cut the same number of stars, always of different sizes, from both the cooked ham and the cheese. Do not worry about the scraps that will inevitably form, you can use them as filling for a savory pie or as a topping for baked pasta.
To prepare the canapés, place the larger bread stars on the work surface. Spread them with mayonnaise. Place a slice of cheese and cooked ham on top, staggering the star tips for a nicer effect. Overlay the slightly smaller bread stars and proceed in the same way.
Continue in the same way, alternating stars and ingredients. Finish with the smallest stars. Finally, decorate the tip with a peppercorn or a pitted olive. Serve the canapés by placing them on a plate with some arugula or lettuce.

If you prepare the canapés in advance, store them in a container or cover the tray with plastic wrap or a damp cloth, so they remain soft.
