Ingredients of Orange Swirls

  • 2 1/2 cups flour
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 3 tbsp butter
  • 8 g fresh yeast
  • 3 tbsp sugar
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 orange peels (untreated)
  • 1 1/4 cup vegetable oil (for frying)

How to prepare Orange Fritters

  • You can prepare the dough by hand or with the help of a mixer. Dissolve the fresh yeast in lukewarm milk in a bowl. Add the sugar and stir.

  • Gradually add the flour and mix. Also, add the melted butter and mix well first with a fork and then knead with your hands until you have a soft, non-sticky dough. Transfer the dough to a bowl, cover with plastic wrap, and let rise in a warm place for about 2-3 hours.

  • Meanwhile, wash the 2 oranges well and grate the peel. Mix the sugar with the orange peel. Take the risen dough and roll it out on a lightly floured work surface. Roll it out with a rolling pin to form a large rectangle.

  • Sprinkle the surface with the orange-flavored sugar. Roll the dough from the wider side. Cut slices about 1/2 inch thick. Place them on the work surface and cover with a cloth. Let them rise for about an hour.

  • Heat plenty of vegetable oil in a small, deep pan. Fry the swirls in hot vegetable oil, letting them brown on all sides. Drain them well on sheets of kitchen paper.
