The addition of soy sauce, a typical ingredient of oriental cuisine, and toasted sesame seeds gives the dish a special flavor that wins everyone over at the table. Ingredients for the Cabbage Side Dish
- 1.76 lbs cabbage
- 1 white onion (medium)
- to taste extra virgin olive oil
- to taste salt
- 1 to taste pepper
- 1/3 cup soy sauce
- 1/4 cup sesame seeds
How to prepare Oriental Cabbage
Clean the cabbage by removing 2-3 outer leaves. Cut the leaves into strips, removing the harder core parts. Place the cabbage in a colander and wash it under running water. Let it drain.
Pour 3-4 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil into a pan, add the thinly sliced onion and the cabbage. Add a pinch of salt. Stir and cover the pan with a lid. Let it cook over medium heat for 10-12 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Meanwhile, in a small pan, toast the sesame seeds over medium heat for about a minute. This way the sesame will release all its aromas and flavors. When the cabbage is cooked, turn off the heat and add the soy sauce, sesame seeds, and a pinch of pepper. Stir and serve
