  • Spread most of the tomato sauce over the entire surface of the puff pastry. Leave a little aside to brush on the Savory Wreath later.

  • Place the slices of scamorza cheese or other soft cheese on the puff pastry first, then the slices of cooked ham. Using the parchment paper, roll it up from the longer side to form a Filled Puff Pastry Roll.

  • Divide the roll in half lengthwise. Braid the two parts together.

  • Place a round steel ring in the center of a baking tray lined with parchment paper. Arrange the braided roll around the ring, joining it at the two ends.

  • Brush the Wreath with the reserved tomato sauce. Decorate with oregano and sesame seeds. Bake it in the preheated oven at 392°F in static mode for 24-25 minutes.

*If your family is large and you want to make a bigger one, just use 2 sheets of puff pastry, prepare 2 filled rolls, and make a larger Wreath by joining the two stuffed braids

Loredana’s Tips

If you don’t have a steel ring that can go in the oven, you can simply use an inverted bowl that will help shape the wreath; remove it before baking

If the savory pie is left over, store it in the fridge for 1-2 days or you can freeze it. Just heat it for a few minutes in a hot oven or microwave

You can vary the filling by replacing the cooked ham with speck or mortadella and the scamorza with other soft melting cheese.

For a vegetarian version, replace the ham with slices of grilled zucchini or eggplant
