Stuffed bread rolls star soft, fluffy, and delicious. Ever since I got my new oven, I’ve been wanting to “get my hands in the dough” and knead! I had this star-shaped paper mold, perfect for making something special for the Holidays. And what better idea than many soft and fluffy Stuffed Rolls with cooked ham and melted cheese, and baking them in this mold makes it immediately feel like Christmas! I would say they are perfect to serve as an appetizer, instead of bread on the table, or even to use as a delicious Christmas centerpiece that makes everyone at the table happy. The dough is simple to prepare, and you can even make it in advance. In fact, you can prepare the Bread Star and freeze it so that it’s ready because I think it’s always a good idea to start setting aside some preparations to have more time for other things. For the filling, you can vary it as you like or even stuff the rolls with 2 different fillings to please everyone’s tastes. Let’s hurry to the kitchen and prepare the Savory Christmas Danube together.

Ingredients for the Bread Star
- 7.5 oz milk
- 0.21 oz fresh baker's yeast
- 3.2 cups flour
- 1 tbsp honey
- 2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
- 1 tsp salt
- 4.2 oz cooked ham
- 7 oz scamorza cheese
- 2 tbsp sesame seeds (for decoration)
- 1 egg (for brushing the rolls)
What you need to prepare the Stuffed Rolls
- Mold
- Mixer
How to prepare the Christmas Rolls
You can prepare the dough for the rolls by hand or with the help of a mixer. Dissolve the yeast in lukewarm milk. Add the honey and the flour, little by little.
Knead well, also adding the olive oil and salt. Knead well and for a long time until you get a soft but non-sticky dough. Transfer the dough to the work surface, spread it out, and fold it over itself several times. Form a ball, place it in a bowl.
Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and let the dough rise in a warm place for at least 3 hours or even longer. Meanwhile, cut the scamorza cheese and cooked ham into small pieces.
Take the risen dough and divide it into 10 more or less equal parts. Flatten each piece of dough, place pieces of cheese and ham in the center. Close and roll into a ball.
Prepare all the stuffed rolls in the same way. Arrange them in the star-shaped paper mold leaving them slightly apart. Cover the mold with plastic wrap and let rise for about 2 hours. As they rise, the rolls will join together, creating the Stuffed Bread Rolls Star.
After the rising time, brush the rolls with the beaten egg and decorate them with sesame seeds. Bake the Christmas Bread Rolls Star in the preheated fan oven at 392°F for about 25 minutes.
See you tomorrow with a new recipe, a hug, Loredana
Loredana’s Tips
If some rolls are left over, store them in a container or a food bag. Or you can also freeze them.

Your Questions
Can I vary the filling of the rolls?
Yes, with other soft and melting cheeses, with speck, mortadella, or salami. Or even a vegetarian version with cooked vegetables and cheese.
Can I prepare the Star and freeze it?
Certainly, you just need to let it defrost and reheat it in the oven for a few minutes.
