Chestnuts in Air Fryer

Chestnuts in an air fryer offer a surprisingly practical and quick way to enjoy one of autumn’s most beloved fruits. Without the need to turn on the oven or use a pan, this technique allows you to achieve well-cooked chestnuts. Soak or no soak? It depends. If the chestnuts are old, they are more difficult to peel, so soaking can be helpful. If the fruit is fresh, soaking can be avoided. However, I usually prefer to soak them regardless. Additionally, it is essential to score the chestnuts to prevent them from exploding during cooking.

If you don’t have an air fryer available, you can follow the recipe for oven baking:

chestnuts in air fryer
  • Difficulty: Very Easy
  • Cost: Very Cheap
  • Rest time: 1 Hour
  • Preparation time: 5 Minutes
  • Portions: 4 People
  • Cooking methods: Air Frying
  • Cuisine: Italian
  • Seasonality: Autumn, Autumn, Winter

Ingredients

  • 1.1 lbs chestnuts

Tools

  • 1 Air Fryer

Steps

To prepare the chestnuts in an air fryer, start by scoring the chestnuts with a knife. Make a horizontal cut (or a cross cut). Place the chestnuts in a bowl and cover them with water. Let them soak for 1 hour.

After the soaking time, drain the chestnuts and place them in the basket of the air fryer (in my case, a 6-liter capacity fryer was used), which you have preheated for 2-3 minutes at 365°F. Do not overlap them. If there are too many, cook them in two batches.

Cook at 365°F for about 15-18 minutes. And here are the chestnuts ready to be enjoyed! If you don’t eat them right away, wrap them in a cloth to keep them warm.

Storage

It is recommended to consume the chestnuts warm, just out of the fryer. If you want to store them, peel them while they are still warm and place them in an airtight container.
