Ingredients

  • 2.2 lbs mussels
  • 1 bunch parsley (chopped)
  • 1 clove garlic
  • to taste extra virgin olive oil
  • 6.2 oz breadcrumbs
  • 1 bunch parsley (chopped)
  • 1 lemon (organic)
  • to taste extra virgin olive oil

Gratinated Mussels Steps

Take care of cleaning the mussels: remove the broken or open ones, wash them under running water, and remove the beard by pulling it outward.

In a large saucepan, add the garlic cut in half and its core removed, the bunch of parsley, a couple of tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil, and the mussels. Cover the saucepan with a lid and cook over high heat. When all the mussels have opened, turn off the heat and let them cool.

Meanwhile, prepare the filling for the gratinated mussels: in a bowl, pour the breadcrumbs, chopped parsley, grated lemon zest, a generous drizzle of oil, and a bit of the mussel cooking liquid. Mix well to combine the ingredients. You should get a moist filling.

Line a baking sheet with parchment paper, fill the shells containing the mussels with the filling, and place them inside. Drizzle a thin stream of oil over the mussels and bake in a preheated oven at 428°F for 10 minutes. Then switch to the grill mode and continue baking for another 5 minutes, or until the surface is golden.

Here they are ready to be served hot, delicious gratinated mussels.

Gratinated Mussels Storage

It is recommended to consume them as soon as they are prepared; if they are left over, you can store them in the refrigerator in an airtight container for up to one day.
