Porridge is the perfect breakfast to start the day with the right amount of energy and sweetness, easy, nutritious, and quick to make. Made with simple oatmeal cooked in milk and water, it becomes a versatile base that lends itself to endless flavor combinations. The preparation is simple and quick: just a few minutes on the stove to get a creamy and fragrant mixture. At that point, you just have to personalize it with your favorite ingredients such as yogurt, fresh or dried fruit, honey, chocolate, coconut flakes, and much more.

Ingredients

  • 1 3/4 cups oat flakes
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 2 teaspoons honey
  • to taste salt
  • to taste dark chocolate (shaved)
  • to taste blueberries
  • to taste almonds
  • to taste walnuts

Steps

To prepare the porridge, first pour the oat flakes, milk, and water into a saucepan. Then add the two teaspoons of honey and a pinch of salt. Place the saucepan on the stove and cook for 3-4 minutes, stirring with a spatula or wooden spoon.

Once the cooking is finished, prepare the ingredients for the topping. In this recipe, I suggest two variants: the first with blueberries and chocolate shavings, the second with chopped almonds and walnuts.

Porridge Storage and Tips

Porridge should be consumed immediately, avoid storing it.

If you don’t want to use cow’s milk, you can replace it with any plant-based drink, such as soy or oat milk.

If you don’t have honey available, you can substitute it with a tablespoon of granulated sugar. Also, if you prefer, you can replace the water with milk. In short, you can get creative as much as you like!
