Puff pastry cannoli with ricotta in the air fryer are irresistibly delicious. The golden pastry wraps a creamy ricotta filling, which you can customize as you like with chocolate chips, pistachio crumbs, or a touch of liqueur. Perfect for a last-minute dessert or to surprise guests with a homemade treat, without having to turn on the oven. Easy, quick and delicious!
Here are other desserts you can try making with the air fryer:
- Difficulty: Very Easy
- Cost: Very Cheap
- Preparation time: 10 Minutes
- Portions: 10 Pieces
- Cooking methods: Air Frying
- Cuisine: Italian
Ingredients
- 1 roll puff pastry (rectangular)
- 1 egg yolk
- as needed granulated sugar
- 1 1/3 cups ricotta
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
- 1/4 cup chocolate chips
- as needed vanilla extract
Tools
- 1 Air Fryer
- Molds
Steps
To start making the puff pastry cannoli with ricotta in the air fryer, cut the puff pastry with a pizza cutter along the short side, making about 10 strips approximately 3/4 inch wide.
Wrap each strip around the cannoli mold, slightly overlapping the puff pastry on itself with each turn. Brush the cannoli with the beaten egg yolk and sprinkle them with granulated sugar.
Place the cannoli spaced apart in the air fryer basket and cook at 340°F for 10/12 minutes. When the surface is well browned, remove the basket and let the cannoli cool.
Meanwhile, prepare the filling: in a bowl, pour the well-drained ricotta, add the powdered sugar, and mix until smooth. Add the chocolate chips, a few drops of vanilla extract, and mix well. Place everything inside a piping bag.
When the cannoli are cool, gently remove them from the molds and fill them with the ricotta cream, and if you wish, you can dip the ends in chocolate chips. Enjoy!
Storage and Tips
Puff pastry cannoli with ricotta in the air fryer can be stored in the refrigerator for a couple of days in an airtight container. My advice is to keep the ricotta cream separate, also stored in the refrigerator, and fill the cannoli only at the time of serving to keep them crispy. On the other hand, the cannoli can be stored in a cookie tin for 4/5 days.
You can customize the ricotta filling as you like: for example, by adding a bit of liqueur for flavoring or replacing the chocolate chips with pistachio or hazelnut crumbs.
