Chocolate-Glazed Apples with Sprinkles, a treat I usually prepare every year at Carnival for my now older nephews, who still enjoy them a lot. Sometimes I also make them as a dessert for various occasions and replace the sugar sprinkles with crushed nuts. So it is a very versatile recipe and I would say it is also very simple and quick to prepare. However, I want to give you a recommendation regarding the melting of dark chocolate: not only should you not place the bowl for the bain-marie in contact with the boiling water, but never add water to the chocolate or use high heat to speed up the melting and do not leave it on the heat. If you have a kitchen thermometer, you can measure the correct degrees (122/131°F), without exceeding them to avoid burning it. If you do not like dark chocolate, you can replace it with milk or white chocolate. The latter will melt a bit earlier, at 113°F.

- Cost: Economical
- Rest time: 1 Hour
- Preparation time: 20 Minutes
- Portions: 1 large apple
- Cooking methods: Bain-Marie
- Cuisine: Italian
- Seasonality: Fall, Winter, and Spring
Ingredients
- 1 large apple
- 5.3 oz dark chocolate
- as needed colorful sprinkles
Tools
- 1 Saucepan
- 1 Bowl stainless steel melting bowl
- 1 Spatula plastic-free and lead-free
- 1 Bowl
- 1 Parchment Paper BPA-free
- 1 Apple Corer
- 1 Peeler
Preparation
Peel the apple with a peeler and remove the core with the appropriate tool. In this case, I did it rudimentarily because I couldn’t find my apple corer anywhere. Once the inside is removed, cut the apple into slices about 3/4 inch thick.
On a cutting board and with a sharp knife, coarsely chop the dark chocolate and put it in a bowl for the bain-marie. Place it on a saucepan of the same circumference, filled 3/4 with water, only when it starts boiling. I recommend, the bowl should not be in contact with the water below. Let it melt and pour the dark chocolate into a small bowl.
Dip the apple slices into it and with a couple of forks, turn them several times so that the glaze completely covers them. Gradually place them on a sheet of parchment paper and decorate them with colorful sprinkles.
Serve our Chocolate-Glazed Apples with Sprinkles only after about an hour, when the chocolate has completely solidified.
Advice
Chocolate-glazed apples do not keep for many days, but in any case, I recommend keeping them in the refrigerator, inside a glass or ceramic airtight container.
