Chocolate Glazed Apples with Sprinkles, a treat I usually prepare every year for Carnival for my nieces and nephews, now grown up, who always enjoy them a lot. Sometimes I also make them as a dessert at the end of a meal on various occasions and replace the sugar sprinkles with chopped nuts. So it’s a very versatile recipe and I would say also very simple and quick to prepare. However, I want to give you a recommendation regarding melting dark chocolate: not only should you not place the bowl for the bain-marie in contact with the boiling water, but never add water to the chocolate or use high heat to speed up melting and do not leave it on the fire. If you have a kitchen thermometer, you can calculate the right degrees (122/131°F), not exceeding them to avoid burning it. If you don’t like dark chocolate, you can replace it with either milk chocolate or white chocolate. The latter will melt a bit earlier, at 113°F.

- Preparation time: 20 Minutes
- Portions: 1 apple
- Cooking methods: Bain-marie
- Cuisine: Italian
- Seasonality: Fall, Winter, and Spring
Ingredients
- 1 large apple
- 5.3 oz dark chocolate
- to taste colored sprinkles
Tools
- 1 Saucepan
- 1 Bowl stainless steel melting bowl
- 1 Spatula non-plastic, lead-free
- 1 Bowl
- 1 Parchment paper BPA-free
- 1 Apple corer
- 1 Peeler
Preparation
Peel the apple with a peeler and remove the core with the appropriate tool. In this case, I did it rudimentarily because I couldn’t find my apple corer anywhere. Once the core is removed, slice the apple into pieces about 3/5 inch thick.
On a cutting board and with a sharp knife, coarsely chop the dark chocolate and place it in a bowl for the bain-marie. Place it over a saucepan of the same diameter, filled 3/4 with water, only when it starts to boil. Make sure the bowl does not come in contact with the water underneath. Melt and pour the dark chocolate into a small bowl.
Dip the apple slices in and with a couple of forks turn them several times, so that the glaze completely covers them. Gradually place them on a sheet of parchment paper and decorate them with colored sprinkles.
Serve our Chocolate Glazed Apples with Sprinkles only after about an hour, when the chocolate has fully solidified.
Tips
Glazed apples do not keep for many days, but in any case, I recommend storing them in the refrigerator, inside an airtight glass or ceramic container.
