Grilled Asparagus

Grilled Asparagus is a really simple and quick side dish to make. I often prepare them when organizing an outdoor barbecue, skewering them, but the result is excellent even this way. The cooking time varies depending on the size of the asparagus, but I noticed it never exceeds fifteen minutes. I seasoned them very simply to appeal to most people, but if you want to enrich them with some special sauce, I can tell you they will still be delicious because asparagus is very delicate. I also recommend eating a lot of them during their season because they are very healthy.

If you don’t have a grill, you can easily cook them in a non-stick pan

  • 2.2 lbs asparagus
  • 2 tbsps extra virgin olive oil
  • Half lemon juice
  • to taste salt
  • 1 bunch fresh mint

Tools

  • 1 Knife
  • 1 Grill
  • 1 Tray

How to Prepare Grilled Asparagus

After opening the bunch of asparagus, use a sharp knife to remove the woodiest part. Then use a peeler to shave only the end part so that you’re sure no unwanted strings remain when you eat them. Gradually immerse them in water, and let them soak for about 10 minutes, allowing the asparagus to lose as much soil as possible. Finally, rinse them under running water.

Drain them well, dry them with a cloth so they don’t boil while cooking, and heat a smooth or ridged grill on the stove.

When the grill is hot, place the asparagus in it and slightly lower the flame. Turn them occasionally so they cook evenly, and before removing them, test with a fork’s prongs to ensure they’ve softened. Usually, it won’t take more than 15 minutes, as they should still remain crunchy.

Remove them from the grill, place them on a serving dish, and let them cool down. Season them first with the liquid ingredients: extra virgin olive oil and lemon juice. You can also try vinegar, but make sure it’s a delicate one.

Finish the seasoning by sprinkling them with salt and adding some fresh mint leaves, torn with your hands.

Serve your Grilled Asparagus, either warm or at room temperature because they will always be delicious.

Tips and Storage

You can store the cooked asparagus for one or two days, but I recommend seasoning them only with salt to preserve them better. The lemon might make them slightly bitter.

Place them inside an airtight container, preferably glass or ceramic, not plastic as it continuously releases toxic substances.
