Grilled Mortadella with Vinegar and Pistachios is not only great as an appetizer; sometimes it solves a quick lunch or dinner. The balsamic vinegar syrup makes it more delicious, and the pistachio crumbs complement it well. If you cut it into small squares, you can serve it as an appetizer, even for Christmas lunch, because it’s not only tasty but also appealing to serve. Prepare the sauce in advance so you can cook and serve it at the last moment.

Ingredients
- 0.88 lbs single thick slice
- 6 tbsps balsamic vinegar
- 4 tsps sugar
- 1 tbsp pistachio crumbs
Tools
- Pan non-stick
- Small pot
- Cutting board
Preparation
Let’s prepare the balsamic vinegar sauce right away, but if you want, you can also use ready-made balsamic glaze. I prefer to make it myself because it’s quick, easy to make, and doesn’t contain chemical additives and preservatives. Put the balsamic vinegar in a small pot, add the sugar, mix well, and put it on medium heat. Let it cook, stirring continuously until it thickens, but don’t overdo it, or it might crystallize. Turn off the heat, remove from the stove, and let it cool.
Meanwhile, cut the mortadella into slices about 0.75 inches thick if you have one like mine. Otherwise, have the deli cut a single slice of the same thickness and change the grill size. Grill it in a previously heated pan and turn it several times until well browned. Then divide it into various wedges and place it on a serving plate.
Serve our Grilled Mortadella with Vinegar and Pistachios immediately, not before sprinkling it with the sauce and pistachio crumbs.
Tip: You can also serve it at room temperature, but it’s definitely better warm.
So bring it to the table as the last appetizer to serve.
We can store it for one or two days in the refrigerator, but inside an airtight container.
To reheat it without drying, do so in the microwave.
If desired, we can also freeze it, but thaw it in the refrigerator and not at room temperature.
