Puff Pastry Squares with Jam and Chocolates

The Puff Pastry Squares with Jam and Chocolates are delicious, super quick, and made with very few ingredients. This is a very colorful recipe, thanks to the chocolate-filled buttons, which I believe is perfect for Carnival and also very appreciated by both adults and children. I always recommend keeping at least 2 puff pastries in the refrigerator or freezer, so they can come to your aid when needed, like for an impromptu snack. Usually, the jams I use for my fillings are homemade, but in this case, having run out of stock, I purchased an organic blueberry jam.

Ingredients

  • 1 package puff pastry
  • to taste jam
  • 1 package colored chocolate buttons
  • 1 egg/milk
  • to taste honey

Tools

  • 1 Baking Tray
  • 1 Pizza Cutter
  • 1 Scissors

How to prepare Puff Pastry Squares with Jam and Chocolates

First, roll out the puff pastry, leaving it on the parchment paper it is rolled in. Fold it in half, unfold it, and spread some tablespoons of jam or marmalade on one part. Use any kind you like (in this case it’s blueberry jam) and put as much as you like but don’t overdo it.

Close it with the part before filling, gently seal the edges, and with a pizza cutter, cut out 12 squares. Place the squares in a baking tray and, with a pair of scissors, cut around the excess parchment paper.

Bake in a preheated static oven at 356°F, and bake in the center of the oven for about 15 minutes, or until well browned. Remember that cooking time may vary by a few minutes from oven to oven, even if they are electric.

Once cooked, let them cool slightly and flatten them a little with your hands. Brush them with honey and decorate with colored chocolate-filled buttons, and let them cool completely.

If you want the chocolates to stick more to the pastry, brush them with white chocolate melted in a double boiler.

Serve your Puff Pastry Squares with Jam and Chocolates when they have completely cooled down, and accompany them with a delicious orange juice.

Tips and Storage

The squares keep very well for a few days but inside an airtight container rather than in a paper bread bag.

Storage also works in the fridge, but before eating them, you should warm them in the microwave oven or in a pan with a lid over low heat.

You can also freeze them, having a ready supply for any occasion.

If you don’t like the jam I used, no problem, fill them with whatever you prefer.
