Puff Pastry Sticks with Hazelnut Cream

The Puff Pastry Sticks with Hazelnut Cream are really tasty, very easy to make, and very lovely to serve not just during Carnival. The speed with which you can make this recipe is due to the fact that all the ingredients are already ready, starting with the rectangular puff pastry. They also cook very quickly, with a few minutes of variation, which varies from oven to oven even if they are electric ovens. In short, a recipe suitable for everyone including those less experienced in the kitchen. If you don’t want to use the egg to brush your sticks, because otherwise it would be wasted, you can replace it with a splash of milk: the result will be the same. I recommend always keeping packaged sheets of any kind in the refrigerator or freezer, for last-minute preparations, because they will really save you in emergency situations.

How to prepare Puff Pastry Sticks with Hazelnut Cream

Remove the puff pastry from its packaging, unroll it, and leave it on its own parchment paper. Once spread out, fold it in half to find the center

.

Spread hazelnut cream on one of the halves, about three tablespoons, and close without sealing the edges.

With a pastry wheel, cut the pastry in half and then into strips, which, depending on the size, will range from a minimum of 12 to a maximum of 16.

Cut off excess parchment paper all around the pastry, and place it inside the baking tray. Now twist the pastry strips, giving them a spiral shape.

Beat an egg in a small bowl, brush it on the sticks, and bake in a preheated oven at 350°F.

Bake in static mode in the center of the oven for about 15/20 minutes, or until they are well browned.

Once cooked, remove them from the oven, let them cool slightly, and in the meantime, melt the white chocolate in a double boiler.

Pour water into a small pot, but do not exceed halfway, and place a bowl of the right size on top.

Add the pieces of white chocolate, put on low heat, and let the chocolate melt.

Brush the sticks with white chocolate and immediately sprinkle them with colored sprinkles.

Serve your Puff Pastry Sticks with Hazelnut Cream only after the white chocolate has solidified so that the sprinkles are well attached.

Tips and Storage

The puff pastry sticks keep quite well for a few days, but inside an airtight container.

However, I recommend reheating them in the microwave before eating, because the pastry and hazelnut cream tend to dry out.

If you don’t like the decoration I used, you can obviously substitute it, or even use nothing rather than powdered sugar.
