Roasted Chestnuts Cooked in an Air Fryer

Roasted Chestnuts cooked in an air fryer are really good, and this is the right time to eat them in abundance, or to preserve them. It’s true that 100 grams of chestnuts provide 165 calories, but we must not forget they are rich in nutritional values, good for the intestines, nervous system, and circulation. Before the air fryer, I used to cook them in the traditional perforated pan over the stove. That way, I was always there to ensure they cooked just right and didn’t burn. Now, with this cooking method, I only have to shake the basket 1 or 2 times, just to ensure even cooking. Also, with my 5.5-liter air fryer, I can cook up to 2 lbs all at once. If you have one, try it immediately, you will be amazed.

Ingredients

  • 2 lbs chestnuts

Tools

  • 1 Air Fryer
  • 1 Knife

How to Prepare Roasted Chestnuts Cooked in an Air Fryer

Wash the chestnuts thoroughly, dry them, and with a sharp knife or a chestnut cutter, make two cuts in a cross shape on the rounded side.

Now put them in a bowl to soak for about 30/40 minutes, so they can rehydrate if they are not freshly picked. This way, the chestnuts will cook better and remain softer.

Dry them, place them directly into the air fryer basket, already hot, and cook for 18 minutes at 356°F. During cooking, shake the basket 1 or 2 times, so they can cook more evenly.

Turn off and serve the Roasted Chestnuts Cooked in an Air Fryer, only after letting them rest for a few minutes, otherwise, you risk burning yourself.

Tips, Variations, Notes, and Storage

You can store roasted chestnuts in a paper bag for bread, but they won’t be as fresh as when they are just made.

I recommend peeling them first, otherwise it will be very difficult to remove the skin under the shell.

You can also freeze them, and if you intend to do so, arrange them on a plate or a tray, not overlapping, so they don’t stick together. Once ready, remove them from the plate, put them in food bags, and place them back in the freezer.
