This grandma’s apple cake recipe is quick to prepare and very simple. Soft, fragrant, and delicious, it will win you over at the first bite. I gave it this “name” because it’s grandma Maria’s favorite cake. Every time I make it, she always eats two slices, and then takes a piece home. After all, apple cake is timeless, and however it’s prepared, it’s always everyone’s favorite.

Apple Cake Ingredients
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 1/4 cups milk
- 6 oz butter (melted)
- 2/3 cup sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1 lemon (zest grated)
- 1 packet baking powder
- 5 Red Delicious apples (Stark)
Tools
- 1 Food Processor Thermomix TM31 – TM5 – TM6
- 1 Bowl
- 1 Whisk electric or manual
- Parchment Paper
- 1 Baking Pan 12 inches
- 1 Knife
- 1 Spatula
Preparation of the Apple Cake
First, melt the butter in a double boiler or in the microwave, and let it cool. Meanwhile, grate the lemon zest.
WITH THERMOMIX: Put the flour, cinnamon, grated lemon zest, sugar, and baking powder in the bowl. Blend at speed 3 for 5 seconds. Then add the egg, milk, and melted butter, mix at speed 4 for 20 seconds.
WITHOUT THERMOMIX – WITH PLANETARY MIXER OR BY HAND: Put the flour, sugar, cinnamon, grated lemon zest, and baking powder in a bowl. Mix with a whisk, then add the milk, melted butter, and egg. Mix the batter well. It must be smooth and lump-free.
BAKING: Preheat the oven to 340°F (static). Then pour the batter into a 12-inch pan and level the surface with a spatula. Peel the apples, remove the core, and slice them thinly. Arrange the apple slices in a circle, then bake in the preheated oven at 340°F (static) for 60 minutes.
Once baked, let it cool completely and sprinkle with powdered sugar.
The springform pan I use is available HERE. Thanks to the side clasp, it allows you to remove cakes without breaking or damaging them, with a drip-proof base, preventing any batter leaks from the mold, keeping the oven and kitchen worktop perfectly clean.
Notes
We can also use plant-based milk if preferred.
Instead of red apples, we can use Golden Delicious.
The cake can be stored under a glass dome for up to three days
The amount of cinnamon is to your liking, feel free to add a bit more than what’s stated in the recipe
