I will explain how to cook croissants like those from the cafe in an air fryer: it’s really easy and quick, and in just a few minutes they’ll be ready on the table! As you will see, there are two types of croissants: those frozen that you cook directly frozen, and those that need to rise overnight. In both cases, the cooking will be quick and won’t require preheating. This point is important, as it is necessary with oven cooking. This way, it will be even easier, and in a few minutes, we can have a perfect breakfast like that from the cafe: just enough time to get up and make a cappuccino or coffee!

The croissants in the air fryer will be fragrant, crunchy on the outside, and flaky inside. Unlike the home oven, which sometimes tends to spoil the croissants, in an air fryer, they will always be compact and perfect. The smell of freshly baked croissants is something special.

  • Difficulty: Very Easy
  • Cost: Economical
  • Preparation time: 5 Minutes
  • Portions: 1
  • Cooking methods: Air Frying
  • Cuisine: Italian
  • Seasonality: All Seasons

Ingredients

  • Frozen Croissants

Tools

  • Air Fryer

Steps

  • There are two types of frozen croissants:
    – To be cooked frozen
    – To be risen overnight outside the freezer
The information is found on the packaging: it will indicate whether the product should be cooked directly frozen or needs to be risen.

  • FROZEN CROISSANTS TO BE COOKED DIRECTLY FROZEN:
Take one or more frozen croissants from the freezer. Place them directly in the air fryer basket without parchment paper (only perforated is fine). No preheating is needed. Cook in the air fryer at 356°F for about 15 minutes. If necessary, you can turn them in the last two minutes, but as you will see, it won’t be needed because they will cook perfectly underneath thanks to the absence of parchment paper. This also happens in air fryers with only a top resistance, like the one used for this recipe.

    CROISSANTS TO RISE OVERNIGHT (DEFROSTED):

In this case, remove the croissants from the freezer and let them rise inside the air fryer basket closed overnight. It will take about 8 hours. The next morning turn on the air fryer and cook them at 338°F for about 12 minutes. Again, you should not use parchment paper (except the perforated one) and it will not be necessary to preheat the air fryer. You should not turn them, but if necessary, you can turn them in the last two minutes.

In both cases, in a few minutes we will have fragrant croissants cooked to perfection like those from the cafe. If you use those to be cooked directly frozen (e.g.: Tre Marie, Lidl, Conad) it will be even faster, just get up, put the croissants from the freezer in the air fryer and in 15 minutes they will be ready on the table.

Advice for You

✔ When there are a few minutes left, check the cooking: they should not get burnt, so it’s always a good idea to check. Do not open in the middle of cooking as it may interrupt rising: check in the last few minutes.

✔ Always check the instructions on the package to understand if they are croissants that should be left outside the freezer or cooked directly frozen.

✔ You can cook more croissants together in the air fryer, or even just one as I did for my breakfast.

✔ As you will see, without preheating it will be even faster than the oven, avoiding waste and above all energy consumption.

✔ If you need to cook 20 croissants together, it is obvious to prefer the oven. In this case, just follow the cooking instructions on the back of the package.

✔ It is necessary to cook the frozen or defrosted croissants directly in the basket of the air fryer without trays or parchment paper: this way they will cook thanks to the air that passes 360 degrees from bottom to top, allowing an ideal air fry. Trays or parchment paper in this case would be an impediment as they would block the air circulating inside the air fryer.

✔ I recommend using the BBQ mesh to insert directly into the non-stick basket of your air fryer: the mesh protects the non-stick of the basket (which will remain like new) and allows the food to cook evenly, letting the air pass 360 degrees. You can find it on Amazon by clicking here.

✔ You can use perforated parchment paper (important: otherwise air won’t pass underneath and above). You can also find it by clicking here.

✔ For this recipe I used the air fryer COSORI 5.5 which you can find on Amazon here: link
