The calzones in the air fryer are super easy and quick to make; they are prepared in a few minutes and the cooking will be very fast. For this recipe, we will see how to make no-rise calzones, as all we need is a teaspoon of instant yeast for savory dishes or baking soda and a few other ingredients.
You can also bake the quick calzones in the oven, but you will need to increase the cooking time. As you will see, this recipe will be easy and quick; you can choose to halve the doses to make just one calzone (perfect as a last-minute dinner if you don’t know what to eat) or double them to make 4 calzones. The filling is delicious and cheesy, but you can choose any filling you like.

Ingredients
- 1 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 6.76 oz room temperature water
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp instant yeast (or 1 level teaspoon of baking soda)
- 1 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
- 3.53 oz tomato sauce
- 4.23 oz melting cheese or mozzarella
- to taste oregano
- to taste salt
- to taste extra virgin olive oil
Tools
- Air Fryer
Steps
In a bowl, pour the flour, the instant yeast and the salt; add the water little by little and mix first with a spoon and then by hand. Finally, add the extra virgin olive oil. Form a dough ball that we will lightly work directly inside the bowl or on a work surface. Leave the dough ball to rest in the bowl covered with a cloth for 15 minutes.
Meanwhile, prepare the filling. In a small bowl, mix the tomato sauce with extra virgin olive oil, a pinch of salt, and oregano. Cut the cheese into slices; you can use a melting cheese, provolone, emmental, or mozzarella.
Take the dough ball and divide it into two. Flour the work surface and roll out the dough balls first with your fingertips and then with a rolling pin to obtain discs. The dough must not be too thin, please. Season half of the disc with tomato sauce (away from the edges) and cheese. Fold the disc in half to form a half-moon, and seal all the edges well.
Transfer the two calzones to the air fryer basket, brush the surface with some extra virgin olive oil, and cook at 375°F for 10-12 minutes. If you bake them in the oven, cook them at 392°F for about 15-20 minutes.
Serve and enjoy! Bon appétit.
Tips for You
SUBSTITUTIONS:
– 1 teaspoon of instant yeast for savory dishes = 1 level teaspoon of baking soda
– All-purpose flour = whole wheat flour
– Melting cheese = mozzarella, emmental, provolone, scamorza
✔ You can season the calzones with the flavor you prefer, for example, béchamel, cheese, and ham.
✔ It is necessary to cook the calzones directly in the basket of the air fryer without trays or parchment paper: this way they will cook thanks to the air that passes 360 degrees from bottom to top, allowing for an ideal air frying. Trays or parchment paper would be an impediment in this case as they would block the air circulating inside the air fryer.
✔ I recommend using the BBQ mesh to insert directly into the non-stick basket of your air fryer: the mesh protects the non-stick coating of the basket (which will remain as new) and allows the food to cook evenly, letting the air pass 360 degrees. You can find it on Amazon by clicking here.
✔ You can use perforated parchment paper (important: otherwise, the air doesn’t pass underneath and above). You can also find it by clicking here.
