But let’s move on to the recipe for apple puff pastries with puff pastry and cranberry jam!
- Difficulty: Very easy
- Cost: Very cheap
- Preparation time: 10 Minutes
- Portions: 6 Pieces
- Cooking methods: Oven
- Cuisine: Italian
- Seasonality: Fall, Winter, and Spring, All seasons
Ingredients for 6 apple puff pastries with jam
- 1 sheet puff pastry (rectangular)
- 2 apples (in my case, red from Val Venosta)
- 2 tbsp jam (cranberry or another of your choice)
- 1 coffee cup milk (at room temperature)
- to taste brown sugar
You can add a final sprinkle of powdered sugar. I don’t like it, so I don’t use it for my desserts.
Tools to prepare apple puff pastries with cranberry jam
- 1 Cutting Board
- 1 Knife
- 1 Baking Tray
- 1 Oven
- 1 Parchment Paper
- 2 Brushes
- 2 Small Bowls
- 1 Cooling Rack
Recipe steps for apple puff pastries
Preheat the oven to 350°F. Then, start with the preparation of the red apples from Val Venosta. Remove the peel and cut many slices of similar thickness and size. Also, remove the core and seeds. You’ll need a knife and a cutting board.
Unroll the rectangular puff pastry on the work surface and, with a knife, or a wheel cutter, cut six rectangles. Transfer the sheet of parchment paper with the puff pastry to a baking tray. Place the apple slices on the puff pastry rectangles, in the center and well aligned. Take the cranberry jam, or another jam of your choice, and with a kitchen brush brush the surface of the apples. I was quite generous to give the flavor of cranberries to the dessert with apples.
In another small bowl, I poured some milk at room temperature and, with another kitchen brush, I brushed the edges of the puff pastry rectangles. Using my fingertips, I start folding the puff pastry inward to create the edges of the puff pastries. Apply a light pressure so that the pastry sticks and doesn’t open during baking. If you don’t want to use milk, you can use egg white, yolk, or a whole egg.
At this point, sprinkle the surface with some brown sugar. The apple puff pastries are ready to be baked. Center of the oven at 350°F with baking for at least 25-30 minutes. Let them bake until the puff pastry is golden and crispy.
Once out of the oven, place the apple puff pastries on a cooling rack to cool them down, so they no longer absorb heat from the baking tray. If you like, you can add, once completely cooled, the powdered sugar over the puff pastry with apples and jam.
Finally, I’m ready to serve this easy and quick apple dessert at the table! All that’s left is to wish you bon appétit and remind you that I’m waiting for you every day here on my blog with many easy, quick, and delicious recipes like this one!
Tips, storage, and variations of the recipe:
Tips: for this recipe, I chose to brush the puff pastry with milk to avoid using the egg and thus avoiding its smell. Obviously, it’s just a suggestion: if you have egg white or yolk, you can use either of these two ingredients. I also recommend preheating the oven well to ensure optimal baking of the puff pastry. Don’t listen to those who say that with 15-20 minutes maximum, the pastry is ready: you’ll only get a soft and not crispy puff pastry.
Storage of apple puff pastries: you can store the apple puff pastries in a cake container with a lid for a couple of days. They will remain as crispy as just out of the oven, obviously, if well-baked, otherwise, they will become soggy the same evening. The jam and apple tend to release moisture during the storage phase, if, of course, the baking was not optimal.
Variations of the recipe: as already mentioned, you can change the jam by choosing the one you like the most. I recommend a cherry jam, peach, berry, or orange jam, always to create a contrast of flavors as in my case. You can replace brown sugar with regular white sugar. If you wish, you can add the powdered sugar as suggested only when the puff pastries are cold. As mentioned, you can replace milk with yolk, egg white, or a well-beaten whole egg.
