Lactose intolerant and chronically lazy, listen up! I’ll tempt you with banana ice cream without an ice cream maker! Here’s a secret: you can make summer ice cream without an ice cream maker and, above all, without cream or milk and still make it delicious and creamy!
Yes indeed, all of us can enjoy a creamy ice cream with no fuss. All we need is: a chopper with a nice large bowl, two tablespoons of acacia honey and three medium-large bananas cut into pieces and then frozen. In short, it takes less time to make it than to say it. The only care required is to let the bananas rest in the freezer overnight to get an extremely creamy texture to enjoy spoon after spoon.
I’ve added, as an extra ingredient to flavor the banana ice cream, some pieces of Fabbri 1905 candied ginger! Small fragrant pieces of candied ginger that give an unexpected note to the banana ice cream we’re about to make!

Ingredients for banana ice cream without an ice cream maker
- 3 bananas
- 2 tablespoons acacia honey
- to taste candied ginger (from Fabbri 1905)
You can use three overripe bananas, the kind you’ve forgotten in the fridge or on the fruit tray, the ones you no longer eat because you’re wary of their sugars and calories per banana! For this reason, besides the honey, we won’t add any more sugar to this homemade ice cream!
I added pieces of Fabbri 1905 candied ginger to give an extra flavor note to the ice cream made with frozen banana. Of course it’s an optional ingredient, but I recommend you try it! On the blog you’ll find many recipes with ginger, little tasty pieces that can surprise you with unexpected pairings for both sweet and savory recipes!

Steps for banana ice cream without an ice cream maker, without cream and milk
We will start the recipe the evening before we serve the banana ice cream. Indeed, we need to prepare the bananas to obtain the creamy and delicious ice cream we want. So take a cutting board, a knife and a food-grade plastic bag, the classic kind for freezing food.
Peel the bananas and slice them into rounds. Place the banana pieces in the bag, well spaced and distributed, and put them in the freezer. The first phase of the recipe is done, now all that remains is to go to sleep.
After this period of time, we can proceed. Take the food processor and place it on the work surface. Put the frozen banana rounds into the bowl, grab the honey and add two tablespoons. That’s it, no other ingredients needed! As I said, we’re making lactose-free ice cream!
Turn on the food processor and wait for the ice cream to thicken. You will see it become super creamy and delicious! Then take the container and, with a spoon, pour all the mixture in and level the surface. Now we can put it back in the freezer until we decide to serve it to our family or guests!
When we’re ready and craving banana ice cream, take the bowls, the spoon to portion it and add pieces of candied ginger. Are you ready? Grab the spoons and enjoy the homemade banana ice cream without cream or milk!
My wholehearted advice is this: enjoy the ice cream immediately after blending it in the food processor. It’s irresistible, with a one-of-a-kind creaminess, fragrant and delicious. Banana is the undisputed star of this recipe and it shows that very often the simplest recipes, with only two ingredients, are the best!
All that remains is to wish you a good appetite and remind you that I’m waiting every day here on my cooking blog with many easy, quick and very tasty recipes like this one!
Storage, tips and recipe variations:
Storage of banana ice cream: you can keep the ice cream in the freezer for almost a week. Don’t worry, it won’t turn dark, nor will its texture and creaminess change.
Recipe variations: you can add sugar instead of acacia honey if you don’t have it, or regular honey. You can add pieces of banana or other fresh fruit instead of candied ginger, if you prefer.
Tips for banana ice cream: make sure to wait the whole night to properly freeze the banana rounds and obtain a super creamy ice cream. Don’t rush when processing the banana pieces with the food processor. Let the cream thicken without adding other ingredients. At most, add a drizzle of water if you see the ice cream not thickening because the rounds are too cold.
