Ingredients for Crispy Baked Potato Patties

  • 5 potatoes (medium-large)
  • 1 egg
  • to taste breadcrumbs
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1 pinch pepper
  • 1 pinch nutmeg
  • 1 pinch chives
  • to taste fennel seeds

You can add a pat of butter to the potato mixture.

  • 1 Potato peeler

For cooking this recipe, you can also use an air fryer; it will take 20 minutes of cooking with a light spray of oil.

Steps for Crispy Baked Potato Patties Recipe

  • Let’s start preparing this recipe by bringing a pot of water to a boil. I didn’t add salt at this step; we will salt the potatoes once mashed. While waiting for the water to boil, wash the potatoes and peel them with a potato peeler. Then add the whole potatoes when the water boils and let them cook for about 30 – 35 minutes. When you can easily pierce them with a fork, it means they are perfectly cooked. Now, preheat the oven to a temperature between 355 and 390 degrees Fahrenheit.

    Quickly drain the potatoes using the colander and place them in a bowl. Mash them with a fork until there are no whole pieces. Now sprinkle with the spices of your choice. I preferred: black pepper, nutmeg, chives, and fennel seeds for this potato recipe. Then add the salt, as we hadn’t salted our boiled potatoes yet. Now take two small bowls: in one, pour some breadcrumbs, in the other, break an egg and beat it quickly with a fork. Take the baking sheet and place a sheet of parchment paper inside. Proceed as follows.

  • Mix the potatoes with the spices by hand and start forming patties, nice and round and of the same size. If you want, you can also oil your hands with some vegetable oil. Then roll the potato patty first in the beaten egg and then in the bowl with the breadcrumbs. Gradually place the breaded potato patties on the baking sheet. Space them well apart, as we will need to turn them and prevent them from touching during baking.

    Once the potato mixture is finished, you can bake the sheet. Cooking varies from 25 to 30 minutes, but make sure to turn them a couple of times; otherwise, you’ll end up with patties blackened on one side and white on the rest of the surface. You can serve the Crispy Potato Patties with mayonnaise enriched with a sprinkle of chives. This potato side dish can be served all year round and is very economical and easy to prepare. Storing Crispy Baked Potato Patties

You can store the Potato Patties in a fridge container after allowing them to cool completely at room temperature. You can also freeze them. This is indeed an easy and quick side dish, always ready to be stored in the fridge or freezer as it pairs well with both meat and fish dishes. Then, you just need to reheat the baked potato patties if you’ve stored them in the fridge, or let them thaw in time. First in the fridge and then heat them in the oven.
