Croissants with Puff Pastry

in

This recipe for Croissants with Puff Pastry, Smoked Salmon and Cream Cheese was suggested to me by Riccardo, a dear friend passionate about cooking. In his version, he uses herbed cream cheese, if you find it, take it because the combination is perfect with salmon. Unfortunately, I have already tried twice and couldn’t find it in the supermarket fridge. So, I made this recipe for Croissants with Smoked Salmon and Cream Cheese with the classic and always delicious version.

Only a few ingredients are needed for this recipe, and you need just a few simple steps to make the croissants, and especially a few minutes of cooking, so you’ll have a truly tasty and delightful appetizer or starter, you’ll see one leads to another!
I usually always buy two puff pastries because I know they go quickly, and a second round is always requested. You can buy either round or rectangular puff pastry; the croissants come out well with both, you just need a little skill with cutting.

Ingredients for 8 Puff Pastry Croissants:

  • 1 roll puff pastry (either round or rectangular)
  • 5.3 oz smoked salmon
  • 1 package cream cheese (in my case Philadelphia)
  • 1 egg yolk
  • as needed milk
  • as needed poppy seeds

Tools for preparing filled puff pastry croissants with salmon

  • 1 Baking tray
  • 1 Pastry wheel
  • 1 Brush
  • 1 Oven
  • 1 Parchment paper
  • 1 Teaspoon
  • 1 Small bowl
  • 1 Brush

Preparation of Puff Pastry Croissants:

  • The first thing to do to prepare the Puff Pastry Croissants is to preheat the oven in static mode to about 340°F.

Take the roll of puff pastry and with the help of a pastry wheel, cut out triangles as shown in the photo. You can use either a fluted wheel or a classic one. The result does not vary.

  • Place half a teaspoon of Philadelphia and a few pieces of smoked salmon at the base of the triangle.

Roll the puff pastry croissants from the base to the tip, applying slight pressure and sealing the ends well.

  • Place the puff pastry croissants on a baking tray lined with parchment paper. Brush the surface with beaten egg yolk with a splash of milk. Sprinkle the surface with poppy seeds or other seeds of your choice and bake the croissants for about 25 minutes. You’ll see the surface become golden.

You can serve them either hot or cold.

    Enjoy your meal!!!

Variations:

Obviously, the filling of the croissants is your choice and taste. My favorites are with salmon, but I have also made others, even in candy shape, and you can find the recipe on the blog like these ones with sausage, if you’re curious, you can click here
