Bea’s Recipes presents one of the “Grandma’s Recipes” the Homemade Fig Jam! From June to September, figs are in season, and I’ve shared many recipes with figs as the main ingredient, so how could I skip the jam preparation? Absolutely not!

So I wholeheartedly trusted the Grandma’s recipe. Ah, grandmas never disappoint, they are an invaluable source of culinary knowledge! The figs, however, are locally sourced directly from my father’s trees. Every year, I have a guaranteed supply thanks to them.

This fig jam can be prepared with either green figs, as I did, or black figs, which are already sweeter and creamier.

Remember that I’m waiting for you every morning in the Facebook group and fan page of Bea’s Recipes with the Recipe of the Day and many other live contents from my kitchen!!

Preparation of Homemade Fig Jam

Let me tell you right away, if you haven’t guessed from the recipe title, the preparation is short… but the cooking time, folks, is discouraging. But persevere as I did, grab a good book and sit on the couch… it will be worth it, you’ll see.

  • First, take a pot with high sides and preferably with a non-stick bottom. Pour the water into it. Next, take the figs, remove the outer part, cut them in half, and add them to the pot with the water. Take the lemon, and use a peeler to remove the peel for the grams needed. Then cut it in half and extract its juice.

Now, everything is ready, so turn on the smallest flame available at low fire and place the pot with the figs on it. Pour the sugar over them, drench with lemon juice, and lay its peel in the center. Now the recipe only requires time and occasional stirring.

After about half an hour, you will see some foam forming in the central part, you can use a skimmer to remove it from the surface of the jam.

  • After about an hour from when I turned on the fire, I removed the lemon peel, fearing it might make the jam too bitter.

I can tell you that the cooking time for my batch was about 2 hours and ten minutes, always keeping the fire low and stirring occasionally.

If you don’t have a non-stick pot, keep a closer watch to prevent it from sticking to the bottom.

Anyway, once the fig jam is ready, remove the pot from the fire and replace it with a pot containing 3 – 4 inches of water. Why? Because now we have to put the jam into jars to preserve it longer.

I got three medium-small ones from a cute shop where my friend Michela works. I poured the fig jam, leaving an inch from the top. I immersed them in the water, placing a dishcloth between them to avoid touching during the boil.

I turned on the fire and boiled them for about 30 minutes. Before turning off the heat, I did the finger test on the lid. If you don’t hear the classic click-clack, it means the vacuum seal was successful.

Let them cool as they are in the pot. And there you have it, your Homemade Fig Jam with the Grandma’s recipe is ready to enjoy, for the classic breakfast with toasted bread, served with aged cheeses, or maybe as a filling for some dessert, so unleash your imagination, now that you’ve made the jam, who can stop you?

    Enjoy your meal!!!
