Tell me your favorite meal and I’ll tell you mine! If you randomly landed here and are reading the Porridge Recipe with Yogurt by chance, I forgive you but I invite you to follow the social profiles of the blog Le Ricette di Bea (that is, my recipe blog) so we can get to know each other better! If, however, you guessed it because you have become regulars in my kitchen, know that you are about to read a recipe that I love! Yes, indeed, the Overnight Porridge or cold porridge has become my favorite breakfast after the trip to Malta in October 2023. Luca and I literally fell in love with it, enjoying it in the hotel every morning.
Every day different, from blueberries to strawberries, from chocolate to kiwis, with berries or white chocolate. All delicious and especially a protein breakfast, perfect to start the day exploring Malta, Valletta, Gozo, and Comino! One of our perfect holiday breakfasts!
So if you’re now wondering: if the vacation was in October, why are you writing the recipe only now that it’s May?! Well, unfortunately, because that’s how I am, a bit lazy but with a mania for always preparing new recipes, leaving the easier recipes for when I have time to write them. In fact, the photographs you will see below are dated early April. Think about how much time can pass sometimes from when I make a recipe to when you can read it on the blog.
I have scheduling issues that don’t quite align with my brain, but before summer, which is just around the corner, I promised myself to write this recipe. So here I am today with the recipe for oatmeal flakes for breakfast with yogurt and fruit and above all a lot of chocolate because energy should not be lacking in the morning!!!
I hope you enjoy reading this version of the cold oatmeal porridge because I am sure you won’t resist the temptation to try it! The photos are really appealing and the deliciousness then, don’t you feel like picking up that spoon and making this sweet breakfast disappear together?
Below you will also find the classic recipe of the porridge or oatmeal soup that I proposed to you some time ago, plus three mainstays of my kitchen, the pancakes!!! From those classic tall, fluffy, and delicious to the high protein ones, to finish with the egg-free pancakes! Am I the only one already hungry at this point?!?

Ingredients for two bowls of Overnight Porridge
- 3/4 cup oat flakes (in my case, small ones)
- 1 container fruit yogurt (in my case, strained Greek berries yogurt, 4.4 oz)
- 10 strawberries (fairly ripe)
- 1.4 oz chocolate (in my case, semi-dark)
- to taste coconut flour (for the final garnish)
- 2 tbsp water (about 1 oz of water, alternatively 1 oz of oat, rice, or soy milk)
My version of overnight porridge is cooked, even though many are simply oat flakes soaked, I honestly didn’t like the result. So I mixed the two recipes, the classic version of porridge with the one that rests in the fridge overnight. Practically, I prepare the oatmeal soup before dinner, then let it cool until I go to bed. I cover the bowl where I will enjoy it in the morning with plastic wrap and put it in the fridge.
Tools to prepare the Porridge Recipe with cold yogurt
- 1 Small pot
- 1 Spoon
- 1 Espresso cup
- 2 Small bowls
- 1 Knife
- 1 Cutting board
- 1 Plastic wrap
The cutting board and knife indicated in the necessary tools list are obviously used for cutting the fruit to garnish our porridge. If you prefer to add only chocolate or other ingredients, you most likely won’t need these two tools.
Steps of the Overnight Cold Porridge Recipe with Greek Yogurt
Let’s start the preparation by bringing an espresso cup of water or milk of your choice to a light boil. I often use water to not weigh down the porridge since I will then add yogurt and other ingredients as a final garnish. But if you have regular milk, soy, rice, or oat milk, you can substitute it for water. Then we add the oat flakes and let them cook for about 4-5 minutes, stirring with a spoon to prevent them from sticking to the bottom of the pot.
Then remove the pot from the heat and add the Greek yogurt or regular yogurt you have chosen; being on a diet, I almost always have strained Greek fruit or plain yogurt in the fridge. Mix the yogurt with the oatmeal soup using a spoon. Then transfer the oat flakes into two bowls and let them cool at room temperature for at least two hours. Then cover the bowls with plastic wrap before transferring them to the fridge.
The next morning, all that’s left is to choose the final garnish for our porridge. In my case, I washed and then cut 10 beautiful ripe strawberries, crumbled about 1.4 oz of semi-dark chocolate, and then sprinkled everything with coconut flour. Our porridge with yogurt is ready to be enjoyed. A protein, colorful, and flavorful breakfast, perfect pre-workout or before starting a workday. Oats for breakfast are indeed recommended among important diet ingredients for all their benefits. All that’s left is to wish you bon appétit and a good day at this point.

Overnight Cold Porridge Recipe Variations
The first variation you can make to this recipe is obvious and evident, the fruit. You can vary based on seasonal fruit and your tastes. Everything goes well with porridge, from bananas to apples, pears to kiwis, berries to tangerines, oranges, everything. Then the chocolate, from milk to white, dark, to leftover chocolates in the pantry. Think of everything that comes to mind and throw it in the porridge, breakfast will never be the same every morning!!!
