Tie Made with Puff Pastry Filled with Hazelnut Cream

in ,

Today we think about fathers, dad, Father’s Day on March 19! Let’s make the tie made with puff pastry filled with hazelnut cream! A decadent dessert, a super simple recipe with only three ingredients! After all, simple things are always the best and for our dads a gesture this simple, like preparing a dessert with puff pastry, is a sincere way to say “I love you”!

I had thought about making this dessert already last year, but then it never happened. I always get lost in planning my recipes, I change things based on what strikes me and what I think deserves attention. So last year the preparation of the sweet puff pastry tie with Nutella was skipped. I left it to the last minute again this year, but at least I managed it and I’m really happy about it!

The preparation is really quick, the steps are simple and intuitive. You can also watch them in the video recipe to make the puff pastry tie below, and you need three or four ingredients at most. I decided to leave the outer puff pastry, that is the part outside the tie, because I think it creates that little frame effect that reminds us of the crafts from kindergarten that were dedicated to mom or dad.

I won’t go on with more chatter, but I want to wish all dads to continue being one of the most important figures in their children’s lives. Without my Paciccio, I wouldn’t be the woman I am today, I wouldn’t have this strength, this character and I wouldn’t have faced the whole path if I hadn’t had him by my side. Fathers like this make the world a better place because they raise children who know how to give love as they received it.

That said, let’s think about recipes. Below you will find clickable links that will take you to: the collection of puff pastry recipes, where you will find many savory or sweet ideas to prepare with this ingredient. Then there are tips to get perfectly golden puff pastry. Today, for the tie, we will use milk and in the article you will understand the reasons for different choices of ingredients to brush the puff pastry. Then there are three recipes: one for Easter, namely the filled puff pastry doves; one recipe for breakfast or a snack, like fried doughnuts with apples and puff pastry, an easy and indulgent recipe. Finally, sweet puff pastry hearts, perfect to give to the people we love!

Ingredients to prepare the puff pastry tie for Father’s Day

  • 1 sheet puff pastry (rectangular)
  • 1/4 cup milk (at room temperature)
  • to taste hazelnut spread
  • to taste coarse sugar (or other decoration of your choice)

That’s it, done! Three ingredients to prepare the sweet tie for dad, four if you count the coarse sugar or another final decoration for this dessert! Add as much hazelnut cream as you like or another cream to your taste.

Tools to prepare the sweet tie

  • 1 Cutting board
  • 1 Knife
  • 1 Brush
  • 1 Baking sheet
  • 1 Oven
  • 1 Spatula
  • 1 Cooling rack

Steps for the recipe: puff pastry tie filled with hazelnut cream

  • I start the preparation by taking the rectangular puff pastry sheet out of the refrigerator, I open the package and leave it for a few minutes at room temperature on the kitchen counter without unrolling it.

Then I turn on the oven in static mode at 356°F. I take a baking sheet and place it on the work surface. I will use the puff pastry’s baking paper, but if it breaks during preparation, replace it with a sheet of parchment paper. Never place the pastry directly on the baking sheet, this avoids adding butter or anything else to grease the sheet.

I take a non-serrated knife with a good point that cuts well. It will be used to draw the tie for dad. I pour some milk into a small bowl, take the kitchen brush and the coarse sugar, and place both near the cutting board so I have them handy during preparation.

I unroll the puff pastry and with the brush I moisten one side of the rectangle, fold the other side over it and press lightly with my hands to make the pastry adhere. With the tip of the knife I draw the tie. You can see these two steps in the video recipe above.

  • I created the tie in the central part of the pastry and leave the remaining pastry around it to create a frame for our dessert. As I said, it almost looks like the little frame we used to draw in kindergarten around our scribbles. I brush the surface with milk, always using the kitchen brush. I sprinkle with coarse sugar and I’m ready to bake.

I place the baking sheet in the center of the oven and let it bake for 25 to 30 minutes. Don’t walk away because the pastry can darken in no time after 25 minutes if the oven is hot. I take the tie out of the oven and transfer it to a cooling rack or another baking sheet so it doesn’t continue to receive heat from the sheet used for baking the dessert.

I will wait a good half hour before cutting and filling the dessert for dad. I need to be sure it’s cold because otherwise I might risk breaking it while cutting. With the tip of the knife, in fact, I cut the tie but leave the little frame intact.

With a spatula or a spoon I add the hazelnut cream and spread it well over the surface. The dessert for dads is finally ready to be served at the table!

All that’s left is for me to wish you a good appetite and remind you that I wait for you every day here on my cooking blog with many easy, quick and delicious recipes like this one!

Tips and variations for the puff pastry tie filled recipe:

Tips for preparing the puff pastry tie: do not raise the oven temperature too much, keep it around 356°F. As mentioned, do not exceed baking for 25-30 minutes, keeping the baking sheet in the center of the oven. Do not cut the tie immediately, you risk the puff pastry breaking and cracking. Choose the cream you prefer for the filling and don’t overdo the amount to avoid weighing down the pastry and causing it to crack.

Recipe variations: as anticipated, you can change the filling choosing a pastry cream, a dark chocolate cream, a pistachio cream or others. You can change the final decoration. I chose coarse sugar which does not change the flavor of the puff pastry and remains visible even after baking the dessert. You can brush the puff pastry with a whole egg, with an egg yolk or with egg white only if you don’t want to use milk or if you are lactose intolerant. I chose milk to avoid wasting an egg.
