Crispy Chickpeas in Air Fryer. Vegan, quick and tasty snack

Crispy Chickpeas in Air Fryer

With this recipe, you can make a healthy, vegan, quick, and tasty snack in just a few minutes to offer friends as a healthy and light appetizer or delicious and light aperitif or to munch on in front of the TV.

For this recipe, I used pre-cooked canned chickpeas, but those cooked at home work just as well.

If you are celiac, you can substitute the flour with cornstarch.

Nutritionally, chickpeas are an excellent source of protein, they lower bad cholesterol, and prevent constipation.

The crispy chickpeas can be stored in a food bag for a few days.

The advantages of cooking in an air fryer are numerous: you don’t need to preheat the oven, the cooking is faster, cheaper, and healthier (it requires very little fat), it doesn’t dirty many pots and dishes, and it doesn’t produce smoke or odors.

Please note that the cooking temperature and times are average guidelines because much depends on your type of air fryer. However, the recipes on my blog have all been previously and rigorously tested by me, so they are well-tried. Nonetheless, I recommend you check the cooking from time to time to best adapt the time and temperature to your fryer.

To cook without dirtying your air fryer, I find these Air Fryer Parchment Paper Trays, WITHOUT holes, very useful, but they are very light, so the hot air circulates just as well. I find them ideal for very greasy foods or things that dirty the fryer a lot. They are disposable, oil and water-resistant, non-stick, don’t burn, and can also be used in a regular oven, found on Amazon.

I often also use this very convenient perforated parchment paper WITH holes for air fryer, non-stick, easy to clean, it can also be used in a classic oven, on Amazon at a great price.

Steps for Crispy Chickpeas in Air Fryer

Open the can of chickpeas and drain them well, my chickpeas are steamed, so they don’t need draining.

Transfer them to a bowl and season with flour, salt, extra virgin olive oil, paprika, turmeric, garlic powder, and breadcrumbs.

You can add spices to taste and also grated Parmesan, pepper, etc..

  • Place the dry chickpeas, in a single layer, in the air fryer basket, covered with specific perforated disposable paper for air fryer (see Shopping Tips below) and spray the surface with extra virgin olive oil spray (see Shopping Tips, below).

  • Set the air fryer temperature to 356°F and program the cooking for about 10 minutes and then at 392°F for another 10 minutes.

  • Once the chickpeas are fried, let them cool (they will become crunchier) and place them on a plate (or in a paper cone) ready to be munched.

Shopping Tips !!!

I am very satisfied with the Philips Air Fryer Airfryer, with a spacious basket, plus the Rapid Air technology creates an optimal circulation of hot air that cooks food evenly and keeps it crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. It has 13 cooking functions in one: fries, bakes, grills, roasts, and reheats.

A healthier way to cook, as it separates and captures excess fat (healthy and tasty dishes with up to 90% less fat). Cook up to 50% faster and save up to 70% energy compared to an oven (halves cooking times compared to a conventional oven, as it does NOT require preheating).

Very useful is the “Keep Warm” mode. Finally, the individual components are all easily removable and dishwasher safe. Highly recommended! You can find the Philips Air Fryer Airfryer on Amazon, at a special price.

These disposable Air Fryer Paper Trays, without holes do not dirty the fryer, but the hot air still circulates because they are very thin. Additionally, they are oil and water-resistant, non-stick, don’t burn, and can also be used in a regular oven, always available on Amazon.

I also often use this convenient perforated parchment paper for air fryer, non-stick, easy to clean, it can also be used in a classic oven, on Amazon at a great price.

Furthermore, if you want to keep your air fryer clean and at the same time protected from scratches and abrasions (e.g., from tongs), these reusable non-stick heat-resistant grill mats are very useful.

To make the chickpeas crunchier, I sprayed on the surface this convenient extra virgin olive oil spray, cold-pressed, of excellent quality, with built-in spray dispenser, which you can always purchase on Amazon.

You can purchase all the items I recommend above on Amazon at a great price, just click directly on the respective links.

FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

  • What does cold-extracted extra virgin olive oil mean?

The oil extracted from a cold pressing is a superior quality extra virgin olive oil, produced according to the EU regulation.

  • Which oven paper for air fryer should I choose?

If using the air fryer for foods that drip (such as batter), it’s better to use parchment paper trays WITHOUT holes (the paper is very light, and the air and heat circulate just the same). If instead, the foods to be cooked in the air fryer are dry and don’t drip, it’s preferable to use perforated paper.

  • What to use to keep the air fryer clean without scratching it?

Simply use a reusable non-stick grill mat, heat-resistant, for Air Fryer (see Shopping Tips above)

  • Are chickpeas cooked in the air fryer vegan?

Yes, chickpeas cooked in the air fryer are vegan, just cook them without adding flour. They still become crunchy.
