Crispy chickpeas in air fryer

With this recipe, you can obtain in a few minutes a healthy, vegan, quick, and appetizing snack to offer to friends as a healthy and light appetizer or fancy and light aperitif or to munch in front of the TV.

For this recipe, I used pre-cooked chickpeas from a can, but the ones you cook yourself will work just fine.

If you are celiac, you can replace the flour with cornstarch.

Nutritionally, chickpeas are an excellent source of protein, they lower bad cholesterol, and prevent constipation.

Crispy chickpeas can be stored in a food bag for a few days.

The advantages of cooking with an air fryer are numerous: you don’t need to preheat the oven, the cooking is more quick, economical, and healthy (requires very little fat), you don’t dirty many pots and dishes, and it doesn’t produce smoke or odors.

I must specify that the temperature and cooking times are mostly indicative as much depends on your type of air fryer, however, the recipes on my Blog are all thoroughly and rigorously tested by me, so they are more than proven, but I still recommend that you check the cooking every now and then to best adapt the time and temperature to your fryer.

To cook without dirtying your air fryer, I find these parchment paper trays for air fryer, WITHOUT holes very useful. They are very lightweight, so the hot air circulates just as well, I find them ideal for very greasy foods or those that make the fryer very dirty. They are disposable, oil and water-resistant, non-stick, they don’t burn, and they can also be used in a regular oven, you can find them on Amazon.

I often also use this convenient perforated parchment paper for air fryer, non-stick and easy to clean, it can also be used in a classic oven, on Amazon at a great price.

If you own a air fryer, look for other recipes (sweet or savory) in the Section: “Air Fryer Recipes“.

Steps for Crispy Chickpeas in Air Fryer

Open the can of chickpeas and drain them well; my chickpeas are steamed, so they don’t need to be drained.

Transfer them into a bowl and season with flour, salt, extra virgin olive oil, paprika, turmeric, garlic powder, and breadcrumbs.

You can add spices to taste and also grated Parmesan cheese, pepper, etc.

  • Place the dry chickpeas, in a single layer, in the basket of the air fryer, covered with specific perforated disposable paper for air fryer (see Purchase Tips below) and spray the surface with extra virgin olive oil spray (see Purchase Tips, below).

  • Set the air fryer temperature to 356°F and program the cooking for about 10 minutes and then at 392°F for another 10 minutes.

  • Once you have fried the chickpeas, let them cool (they will be crunchier) and place them in a small dish (or in a pouch) ready to be crunched on.

Purchase Tips !!!

Personally, I get along great with the Cosori Air Fryer, with large 5.7-liter basket, 13 functions, optimal hot air circulation that makes foods: crispy outside and soft inside

A healthier way to cook, because it separates and captures excess fat (healthy and tasty dishes with up to 97% less fat). It halves the cooking time compared to a conventional oven, with significant economic and time savings. Finally, the individual components are all easily removable and dishwasher safe. Highly recommended!

These disposable air fryer paper trays, without holes don’t dirty the fryer, but the hot air circulates just as well because they are very thin. In addition, they are oil and water-resistant, non-stick, they don’t burn, and they can also be used in a regular oven.

I often also use this convenient perforated parchment paper for air fryer, non-stick and easy to clean, it can also be used in a classic oven.

Furthermore, if you want to keep your air fryer clean and at the same time, protected from scratches and abrasions (e.g., from tongs), these reusable non-stick heat-resistant grill mats are very useful.

To make the chickpeas crunchier, I sprayed the surface with this handy extra virgin spray olive oil, cold-pressed, of excellent quality, with an incorporated spray dispenser.

You can purchase all the items I recommend above on Amazon, at a great price, just click directly on the respective links.
