  • 7 tbsps Butter (cold)
  • 1/3 cup Mayonnaise (store-bought or homemade)
  • 3 tbsps Sugar (granulated)
  • Flour (2 1/4 – 2 1/2 cups)

Preparation for Sweet Mayonnaise Cookies

  • Cut the well-chilled butter into small pieces and beat it in a stand mixer with the granulated sugar for at least five minutes, until you get a soft and light cream.

  • Add the mayonnaise, mixing well.

  • Gradually, start adding the flour little by little, working the dough with the paddle attachment.

  • Depending on the mayonnaise used, more or less thick, the amount of flour to use will vary slightly: you should get a soft but not too sticky dough.

  • Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and let it rest in the fridge for 20 minutes.
    Then preheat the oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit.

  • Shape the dough into balls, flatten with your hands, and simply score with a fork, rolling them in granulated sugar (before baking).

  • Instead of round cookies, if you like, you can also shape the cookies into ribbed cylinders (rolling them between your hands). Place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

  • Place the baking sheet with the raw cookies in the freezer for 5 minutes before baking: they will hold their shape even better.

  • Bake the cookies for about 12-13 minutes, checking the color. Generally, when the edges are colored and the cookies are slightly golden, they are ready (I like them pale).

  • Remove the cookies from the oven and do not touch them at all, as they are still soft and very crumbly when hot.
    Only once cool do they take on the right consistency.
