Chocolate cookies for children’s parties are delicious cookies ideal for enriching the table at their birthday parties.
I made them in the format photographed here for my girls’ party, but clearly, this can vary to your liking and be personalized based on the theme of the party.
A few simple ingredients, a bit of creativity, and a pinch of effort will allow you to make the little ones happy by recreating the shapes they love most. Besides, who can resist the goodness of chocolate?
To prepare them without overloading yourself, especially if the party is at your house, you can make the dough the night before and keep it in the fridge, well-wrapped in plastic wrap all night. The next morning you’ll have the dough already ready to be rolled out.
So get some cookie cutters and sugar decorations and try making these cookies that both kids and adults will love!

- 1 cup butter (softened)
- 2 eggs (medium)
- 2 tsps baking powder
- vanilla beans vanilla (or 1 sachet of vanillin)
- to taste salt
- 1 egg
- 1 pinch vanillin
- 1/2 cup Nutella®
- 1/4 cup colored sprinkles (ball and star shaped)
- 5 1/3 oz dark chocolate
Tools
- Baking Sheets oven
- Rolling Pin graduated
- Work Surface
- Cookie Cutters butterfly and flower h. 2.75 inches
- Cooling Rack for cookies
- 1 Decorating Pen
Steps
To prepare the chocolate cookies for children’s parties, starting with the butterfly-shaped ones, use electric beaters to mix the softened butter with sugar and vanilla seeds (or vanillin).
Then add the sifted flour with cocoa powder and baking powder and mix in the eggs.
Finally, incorporate the salt by kneading a bit more to distribute it well.
Wrap in plastic wrap and let rest in the fridge for at least a few hours or overnight.
Take the dough out ten minutes before working it.
Preheat the oven to 340 degrees Fahrenheit, static mode, and place the rack in the center.
Roll out the dough on a lightly floured work surface, using a floured graduated rolling pin, and cut into butterflies about 0.4 inches thick.
Place on a baking sheet slightly apart and bake for about 12 minutes.
Let cool on a rack.
At this point, melt the chocolate in a bain-marie and let it cool for a few minutes so it doesn’t become too liquid.
Then, place it in a decorating pen, or in a cone made from parchment paper with the tip cut off, taking care not to create a hole too large.
Use the chocolate to draw the central body of the butterfly on the cookies and cover the wings with it.
On the wings, then adhere plenty of colored stars and make the butterfly’s eyes with two nonpareil sprinkles.
Let them dry at room temperature before arranging the cookies on a tray.
Do not stack, especially where the melted chocolate is not covered by stars or nonpareil and could, therefore, stain the cookies.
The butterfly-shaped chocolate cookies are thus completed.
To make the flower cookies, roll out the dough to a thickness of about 0.16 inches. Use a fairly large cutter to form the first cookies.
Place a small dollop of Nutella in the center of half of them, not overdoing it to prevent it from oozing out during baking.
Close by placing another flower cookie on top of the Nutella-filled one, pressing down well with your fingers, especially around the central filling.
Arrange the paired cookies on a baking sheet, spacing them apart.
In a small bowl, beat an egg with a pinch of vanillin using a fork, and brush it only on the petals. Then adhere the colored nonpareil sprinkles.
Bake at 340 degrees Fahrenheit, in a static oven, middle level, for about 20 minutes.
Let cool.
The flowers can be left as is or, as I did, the center can be decorated with melted chocolate.
The chocolate cookies for children’s parties in the two butterfly and flower variations are thus ready to adorn the party table.
