Baked Stuffed Rolls, Original and Tasty, Super Easy to Make!

These baked stuffed rolls are different from the usual rolls but just as good, easy to prepare and extremely tasty. It’s a fun idea we’ve seen several times on social media and decided to try out to present and enjoy the classic burger bun filled with hamburger, vegetables, and sauces like mayonnaise and ketchup. We prepare the dough for the rolls and fill them with beef hamburger and cheese before baking, then complete with the remaining ingredients after cooking. A truly original and fun way to prepare classic sandwiches!

The preparation is very simple: mix the water with milk and yeast; after 5 minutes, add the soft butter, an egg, flour, and salt. Knead the ingredients together and let the dough rise until it doubles. Divide the dough into 8 balls and roll each out with a rolling pin to get rectangles. On the bottom part, place a seasoned meat patty with salt and pepper and a slice of cheese. Close each roll and let them rise for another 30 minutes. Brush with milk and sesame seeds and bake for 15 minutes at 355°F. Slightly open the rolls and fill them with a sauce made of yogurt, mustard, ketchup, and chopped pickled peppers, a slice of tomato, a lettuce leaf, and caramelized onions.

When to prepare these baked stuffed rolls? Definitely when you want to enjoy a sandwich like those from the fast food without having to leave home, especially when the bad weather doesn’t allow it, or in any case when you want to get your hands dirty and try to make great sandwiches with your own hands. I just have to find these tasty and delicious stuffed rolls!

  • lettuce (romaine or iceberg)
  • 2 red onions
  • 0.7 oz balsamic vinegar
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar
  • olive oil
  • 5 oz Greek yogurt
  • 1 tbsp mustard
  • 1 tbsp ketchup
  • 1.8 oz pickled peppers
  • olive oil

Steps to Prepare the Baked Stuffed Rolls

  • First, prepare the baked stuffed rolls by pouring water, milk and crumbled fresh yeast or dry yeast into a bowl. Mix so the yeast dissolves and let it rest for about 5 minutes.

Dissolve the yeast in water and milk
  • Add softened butter at room temperature, the beaten egg, and flour, and mix the ingredients together until you get a smooth and homogenous dough.

    Add the remaining ingredients
  • Cover the dough and let it rise covered for about one to two hours or until it doubles in volume.
Meanwhile, season the meat with salt, pepper, and various spices.
Prepare the caramelized onions by peeling the onions, slicing them, and putting them in a pan with olive oil, brown sugar, and balsamic vinegar. Cook for about twenty minutes until they are soft and caramelized.
Prepare the sauce by mixing the yogurt with mustard, ketchup, drained and chopped pickled peppers, olive oil, salt, and pepper.
Slice the tomatoes and wash the lettuce leaves thoroughly.

Let the dough rise until doubled
  • When the dough has doubled in volume, divide it into 8 parts of about 2.5-2.8 oz each and form balls.

Divide the dough into 8 parts
  • Roll out each ball on a floured work surface with a rolling pin to form a rectangle.

    Roll out each ball
  • On the lower half of each rectangle, place a portion of the meat filling and a slice of cheese.

    Fill with meat and cheese
  • Fold the top over the filling to form a pocket. Repeat this operation for the remaining balls to get 8 rolls.

Fold the top over the bottom
  • Place all the stuffed rolls on a baking tray lined with parchment paper, brush with milk or a beaten egg, and sprinkle with sesame seeds. Let the rolls rise for another thirty minutes, then bake them at 375°F for about 15 minutes or until golden brown on top.

Bake the rolls after letting them rise for another 30 minutes
  • Once out of the oven, open each roll and fill them with the prepared sauce, a slice of tomato, a leaf of lettuce, and the caramelized onions.

Stuff the rolls with the remaining ingredients
  • The baked stuffed rolls are ready to be enjoyed.

You can store these rolls in the fridge for up to two days, perhaps avoiding filling them with the remaining ingredients, which you will use when serving them. Just reheat the rolls in the oven or air fryer and then stuff them.

You can choose any sauces you prefer for the filling, or even alternative fillings with vegetables instead of meat.
