Puff Pastry Croissants with Nutella

Puff Pastry Croissants with Nutella, easy and very quick to make; you can use your preferred cream for the filling. Thanks to the use of puff pastry, we can prepare excellent croissants in just a few minutes for breakfast or snack, and they will remain perfect as freshly baked for a couple of days if stored in covered containers.

You can simply prepare the puff pastry at home by following this recipe and keep it in the fridge covered in plastic wrap to have it available for several days.

The puff pastry croissants with Nutella do not require rising times and will be crispy and soft to consume, appreciated by both adults and children. If you don’t like hazelnut cream, you can also fill them with jam, and the final result will still be very tasty.

Ingredients

  • 2 packages puff pastry (or 1 homemade puff pastry batch)
  • 8 tablespoons Nutella®
  • 1 egg yolk (to brush on the surface)
  • as needed sugar (to sprinkle on the surface)

Tools

If you make the puff pastry at home, you’ll need a rolling pin to roll it out, but if you buy it ready, you only need a pastry cutter.

  • 1 Rolling Pin
  • 1 Pastry Cutter

Preparation

The preparation of the puff pastry croissants is very simple and takes just a few minutes, as you can see well in the video above.

  • If using homemade puff pastry, you’ll need to roll it out on a work surface lightly dusted with flour or powdered sugar. Roll it to a thickness of a few millimeters and divide it into two equal rectangles. If you buy the puff pastry, you’ll already have two equal rectangles. Spread about six tablespoons of Nutella on one of the rectangles, covering the entire surface, and then cover with the other rectangle of puff pastry.

  • Now, you just need to cut the puff pastry first into four wide strips, which will then be divided into two triangles with a simple diagonal cut. If you wish, you can further fill each triangle with a little cream by placing it in the center of the shortest side of the triangle, as shown in the photo. Roll up each croissant starting from the shortest side, this step is clearly visible in the video.

  • Once you have created your puff pastry croissants, place them on a baking sheet covered with parchment paper and brush the surface of the croissants with the slightly beaten egg yolk. Now you can sprinkle the croissants with some granulated sugar to make them even crunchier during baking, but if you don’t like overly sweet desserts, you can skip this step. Finally, bake the croissants in a preheated oven at 392°F (200°C) for about 20 minutes or until the surface is golden brown.

NOTES

Puff pastry croissants keep well for a few days in closed containers with lids and will always be as crispy as freshly baked.
