Smarties cookies, this time my daughter is in the kitchen and she decides to make cookies following an American video recipe instead of my own, which you can read here. She doesn’t even worry about my reaction 😂 and tells me, “I want to make delicious cookies to give to my boyfriend, so Mom, I’d like to follow this video recipe, but please check it first and tell me if you think it’s good.”
I wonder if it’s respectful to ask your mom, who lovingly curates her blog full of delicious recipes, to evaluate someone else’s recipe to then replicate it? After a moment of pure jealousy, since children are pieces of ❤️, I check the video, find it valid, give my approval for her to test the recipe, and secretly hope they turn out poorly 😁. Instead, I have to say she was amazing; they were very good, gone in no time, and the recipient seemed to be very satisfied.
It’s not the first time Stefania proves to be a better cook than I am, and I think it’s fair to share her recipes with you because the more the merrier in the kitchen!
Some small changes were made to the original recipe because it called for too much white chocolate for us and used self-raising flour, which we don’t usually have at home.
Otherwise, I can assure you that this Smarties cookie recipe is very good, simple, and colorful enough to definitely make your children happy, I also recommend

Ingredients
These Smarties cookies are full of good dark and white chocolate
- 1/2 cup butter (melted)
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/3 cup sugar (granulated)
- 1 egg
- to taste vanilla flavor
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 pinch salt
- 6 oz dark chocolate
- 6 oz white chocolate
- 1 cup Smarties (mini if possible)
- 1 tsp baking soda
Tools
To make the Smarties cookies, all you need is a large bowl with a wooden spoon, but if you have it, you can use a stand mixer with a paddle attachment, and they will still be ready in just a few minutes
- 1 Bowl
- 1 Spoon
Preparation
The preparation of Smarties cookies is simple and fast, requiring just a few minutes to mix and only 12 minutes to bake
The first thing to do is melt the butter; you can easily microwave it for about 30 seconds, and it will be perfect for the recipe. Put the melted butter in the bowl, add all the sugar, and start mixing; add the egg, flour, baking soda, vanilla flavoring, and both types of chocolate, previously chopped, and finally add the Smarties. Do not overwork the dough to avoid overheating it; it should simply be mixed as you see in the photo.
With the help of a teaspoon, take some dough and place it on a baking sheet covered with parchment paper. I suggest using two sheets because the cookies will spread a lot, so you need to place them far apart as you see in the photo.
Another useful tip, hence why I recommend using the teaspoon, is that the “mound” of dough should be taller than it is wide when you place it on the baking sheet to avoid them becoming too thin during baking.
Finally, bake in a preheated oven at 350°F for 12 minutes; watch the baking time, but I do not recommend going much beyond an additional couple of minutes as they will become crunchier as they cool down.
Remove the cookies from the oven and let them cool; if you want perfectly round cookies, you should shake each cookie with circular motions using a glass. Basically, you need to “grab” the cookie with the rim of the glass, keeping it always on the tray, make these circular movements, and the cookie will become rounder, but I personally prefer them irregular as they come out of the oven since they seem more artisanal to me.
NOTES
Smarties cookies keep well for days if stored in a cookie jar with a lid. They are very delicious and colorful cookies that will cheer up both adults and children; the recipe suggested putting all the Smarties in the dough, but next time I would save some to place on top of the cookie before baking just to better see the Smarties after baking.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use chocolate chips?
Certainly, instead of the chopped chocolate, you can use chocolate chips, but they tend to remain more compact during baking, and the final result might be less indulgent 😁
Can I use regular baking powder?
As an alternative to baking soda, you can use instant baking powder or even better, cream of tartar, but the flavor of baking soda is typical of these cookies, which are part of the cookie family.
