Salad with Smoked Salmon and Tropea Onion – Light Lunch Idea

Salad with Smoked Salmon and Tropea Onion, a fresh and balanced one-dish meal, perfect for summer but also convenient throughout the year when you’re looking for something quick and light to prepare.

It’s a simple, yet complete recipe: the base of mixed greens and crunchy vegetables is combined with the savory taste of smoked salmon, while the dressing made with extra virgin olive oil, lemon, mustard, and honey ties everything together with the right balance.

It is prepared in a few minutes, without any cooking needed, and is ideal as a lunch to bring to the office, a one-dish meal for a light dinner, or as an appetizer in a fish menu. To make it more nutritionally complete, you can serve it with a slice of rustic bread, some whole-wheat croutons, or a portion of grains like farro or barley.

Like all salads, this one can also be easily customized according to your tastes: you can add cucumbers, avocado, toasted seeds, or replace the mixed greens with arugula or fresh baby spinach.

This salad with smoked salmon is a great solution when you’re short on time but don’t want to give up on a healthy and tasty dish.

FAQ

  • Can I prepare the salad in advance?

Yes, you can prepare the ingredients in advance, but I recommend adding the dressing only at the time of serving to prevent the vegetables from becoming too soft. If you want to take it out, store the dressing in a small separate container.

  • Can the honey in the dressing be replaced?

Yes, you can use maple syrup or rice malt for a honey-free version. The result will be slightly different, but the sweet and sour contrast will still be pleasant.

  • Can the Tropea onion be replaced?

If you don’t have Tropea onion available, you can use a sweet red onion or, alternatively, shallots. For a milder taste, you can soak it for a few minutes in water and vinegar before using it.
