The Nutella Puff Pastry Heart is a sweet recipe for Valentine’s Day, but it can be prepared all year round since it is quick and delightful. The base of this dessert is puff pastry, a ready-made product that lends itself to many sweet and savory recipes and can be easily shaped. I decided to fill this heart with luscious Nutella, but you can also use jam or pastry cream, perhaps enriched with small strawberries.

Ingredients for Puff Pastry Heart

  • 2 sheets puff pastry (round or rectangular)
  • 4 tbsp Nutella®
  • as needed powdered sugar

Steps for Puff Pastry Heart

  • On a work surface, roll out the first sheet of puff pastry and, with a knife, cut out the shape of a heart.

    Repeat the same for the second sheet of puff pastry and create a small heart in the center without cutting it all the way through — this will be the part you should not cut; you can help yourself with a cookie cutter.

    Remove the excess pastry and spread the four tablespoons of Nutella on the first sheet, slightly warmed in the microwave if it is too firm.

    Then cover with the second puff pastry heart.

    Cut strips into the outer pastry.
    Twist each strip around itself.

    Bake in a convection oven at 356°F for about 25 minutes.

    Remove from the oven, let cool and dust with powdered sugar, decorating with delicious small strawberries.

You can prepare this recipe in advance and keep it under a cake dome or in an airtight container until the next day; then you should consume it, otherwise it will lose its crispness.

A variation, as already mentioned, is to fill it with berry jam or pastry cream enriched with strawberries.
