Pasta with Pesto and Tuna

Pasta with Pesto and Tuna, an easy and quick first course, ideal for those short on time but still wanting a simple and tasty pasta dish suitable for the whole family.

This is indeed a first course that I prepare often and that everyone likes. My children are always hungry when they get home from school, and if I want to make sure they’re happy, I make pasta with pesto and tuna.

Regarding the choice of pesto, I recommend a good one that you can make yourself. If you like, here you can find my procedure (using my mom’s recipe). For an even quicker version, you can use ready-made pesto, and in less than twenty minutes, lunch or dinner is served.

But now let’s see together how to prepare the recipe for Pasta with Pesto and Tuna. Get the ingredients ready so we can start.

And if you try it, don’t forget to let me know in the comments on my Facebook page HERE. I’ll be waiting for you.

  • Preparation time: 5 Minutes
  • Portions: 4
  • Cooking methods: Stovetop
  • Cuisine: Italian

Ingredients

  • 11.3 oz pasta (mezze penne or other shapes)
  • 4.2 oz pesto (amount as desired)
  • 5.6 oz tuna in oil (drained)
  • 3 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
  • 1/2 onion

Tools

  • 1 Pot
  • 1 Pan
  • 1 Chopper

Steps

  • First, put a pot with plenty of water on the stove and bring it to a boil. When the water boils, add the penne (or the short pasta shape of your choice) and cook for at least 10 – 11 minutes (depending on the instructions on the box).

  • In the meantime, prepare the sauce.

  • Heat 3 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil in a fairly large non-stick pan, add the onion finely chopped with a manual chopper (practical and very quick), and let it brown. Then, add the tuna and let it flavor, then also add the pesto and, continuing to stir, let it flavor for a couple of minutes.

  • Once the pasta is cooked, drain it al dente and pour it into the pan with the sauce (if necessary, add a bit of cooking water), mix and sauté for a few minutes to combine everything well. Finally, the Pasta with Pesto and Tuna is ready. Enjoy your meal!

In this recipe, I used tuna in oil after draining it, but you can also opt for natural or fresh tuna.
